Ryan Murphy is 'tickled pink' by 'Glee' 19 nominations while Tina Fey jokes that NBC forgets to cancel '30 Rock' for the fifth time.
"Glee" had its successful run in the first season and it shows in how many Emmys chance the musical series receives. In the announcement of the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmys nominees, "Glee" takes in as many as 19 nods including Best Comedy Series as well as Best Comedy Actor and Best Comedy Actress for Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele respectively.
"I'm tickled pink," creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy said. With the addition of Michele and Morrison, the nominations from the cast alone is totaling seven. "They got that we're about inclusiveness," Murphy commented. For the recognition, he thanked FOX for making it happen, saying "When I didn't think it was going to work, they did. They always trusted my vision."
The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is particularly giving new comedy series their time to shine. "Modern Family" is also taking multiple nods. Five members of the show's cast earn either Supporting Actor or Actress nominations but unfortunately Ed O'Neill does not.
Speaking of the snub, nominated cast Ty Burrell said, "I'm so glad, [and] I just feel so lucky. [But] I have to say Ed O'Neill's omission from the Emmys voting is an opportunity to talk about him being the heart and soul of [Modern Family], which he is."
"30 Rock" is the one which will battle "Glee" and "Modern Family" in the Best Comedy Series. "This is great news. We're grateful and excited. Especially since today is the fifth anniversary of the day NBC forgot to cancel us," beaming Tina Fey expressed her joy.
Jon Hamm is benefiting from "30 Rock", earning a nod as a guest star, while he is also nominated as Best Actor for "Mad Men". "That's literally just Tina Fey's Emmy sauce rubbing off on me," Hamm joked. His main starring vehicle "Mad Men" is the most nominated drama this year, earning 17 nods including for Best Drama and Best Actress for January Jones.
But the one having the chance to get a triumphant night would be HBO's miniseries "The Pacific". It has outstanding 24 chances to win in such categories as Best Miniseries and Outstanding Cinematogrphy.
The 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be handed out on August 29 in a ceremony at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre and will be presented by comedian Jimmy Fallon. The partial list of the top nominations is available below while the full list can be downloaded at Emmys' official site.
