Donny Osmond Wins 'Dancing with the Stars' Season 9
November 25, 2009 11:11:27The new champion of "Dancing with the Stars" who takes over the disco ball trophy from last season's winner Shawn Johnson is Donny Osmond. The so-called "showbiz legend" surpassed judges' expectation and beat her sister Marie Osmond who finished third in the fifth season. This is also the first win for Donny's partner Kym Johnson.
Donny actually came second on Monday, November 23 performance night with a total score of 85 out of 90. Mya was the one on the lead with 87 out of 90, but Donny has proven himself that he has a throng of fans that kept voting for him and Kym during the entire season. Mya thus finished second followed by Kelly Osbourne.

'Dancing with the Stars' Finale Recap: Mya on the Lead
November 24, 2009 11:11:42In the "Dancing with the Stars" finale this week, it all came down to three couples and three dances that will determine who wins the disco mirror ball this season. Each of the celebity dancers, Mya, Kelly Osbourne and Donny Osmond, has to dance favorite dance of the season, a freestyle and a megamix.
Kelly and partner Louis Armstrong kicked off the finale with Argentine Tango. Carrie Ann Inaba gave Kelly a tip during the rehearsals, saying that she should loosen up and focus on the intimacy. The dance earned Kelly a praise from Inaba for the emotional connection and a criticism from Bruno Tonioli for her loose hand. Score: 9-9-8, a total of 26 out of 30.

Final 3 of 'Dancing with the Stars' Season 9 Revealed
November 18, 2009 10:11:00Mya and Donny Osmond were the first two celebrities announced advancing to the finals of "Dancing with the Stars". The former topped the leader board on Monday, November 16 performance night with 87 out of 90 points. She scored a perfect 30 for their Salsa, 29 for Cha Cha Cha and 28 for Waltz. Osmond, being the one with strong fan base, grabbed 27 for Jitterbug, 26 for Samba, and 21 for Tango.
It was between Joanna Krupa and Kelly Osbourne when the hosts were about to announce the third couple in the finale. Krupa earned 81 points on Monday and fell at the second place. Osbourne meanwhile, received 78 points and sat at the third place. Although she scored higher, Krupa did not get the same vote of confidence from the audience and was thus eliminated. "It's been such an amazing experience... I've grown as a person," Joanna said.

Aaron Carter Exits 'Dancing with the Stars'
November 11, 2009 11:11:52One of the dancers of "Dancing with the Stars" this season has been extracted from the competition to leave four people in the semifinals. Taking the fall in the eighth week would be Aaron Carter and his partner Karina Smirnoff. Carter stumbled when he was required to dance the Foxtrot. He only managed to score 23 out of 30, the lowest number outed on the Monday night performance.
It was between Carter and Kelly Osbourne on the result night, but Osbourne had a slight win from the judge and apparently the audience. Saying goodbye to the competition, Carter said, "One thing that I will always remember from this competition is the lessons I've learned. I've grown some much with your compliments and your criticisms, so thank you. Thank you for helping me be able to grow on this show."

'DWTS' Double Elimination: Michael Irvin and Mark Dacascos
November 04, 2009 10:11:44NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin is the one taking the exit from "Dancing with the Stars" this week. The number of votes from the audience did not help to crank up the score he received on Monday, November 3 performance. Ironically, his solo Foxtrot earned him 23 points out of 30, his best score during the entire season.
Together with his partner Anna Demidova, Irvin earned praises for his smooth Foxtrot. Len said it was brilliant while Carrie Ann branded it "gracious and fluid". Michael and Anna also participated on the group dance, the Paso Doble. With Aaron Carter, Mark Dacascos and Mya, Irvin added 24 to his total number.

Melissa Joan Hart and Louie Vito Eliminated From 'DWTS'
October 28, 2009 09:10:26Surviving seven weeks on the dance floor, Melissa Joan Hart eventually was sent home last night on "Dancing with the Stars". The actress and her partner Mark Ballas were indeed one of the couples who earned the lowest score on the Monday, October 26 performance night. The audience vote did not manage to lift up the number, resulting in her elimination.
The show was looking at double elimination this week. Beside announcing that Hart was not qualified for the next round, the show also put Louie Vito and Michael Irvin on the dance off. Bruno voted for Vito while Carrie and Len voted for Irvin to stay. "I thought you did well at the personality part," Carrie Ann said about Irvin who reprised the Samba. Therefore, Vito is the eight dancer to be axed from the show.

Natalie Coughlin Eliminated From 'Dancing with the Stars'
October 21, 2009 09:10:05Swimmer Natalie Coughlin did not make it to the next round of "Dancing with the Stars" after receiving the boot this week. She only got 22 out of 30 from the judges for the Paso Doble on Monday night performance and the audience vote did not help. "I love this so much. I guess I didn't show it... but I really did... and I'm sorry," she said upon exit.
The three judges were somewhat surprised by the elimination of Natalie and the fact that Aaron Carter was also in the bottom two. "I'm heartbroken. ...The viewers, they want to support underdogs, but justice must prevail," Len Goodman commented on who viewers cast their votes to.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy Replacing Derek Hough on 'DWTS'
October 17, 2009 11:10:25Maksim Chmerkovskiy gets another screen time on "Dancing with the Stars" after Derek Hough pulls out of the competition due to severe flu. Derek made the announcement through his Twitter whilst updating his health condition, writing "At the docs for 3 hrs today ... Had a temprature of 104 ... Had an IV in my arm for 2hrs ... Maks is steppin up for me helpin jo."
Derek and Joanna Krupa were one of the highest scorer pairs this week with the Lambada. They got 26 out of 30 from the judges and were pronounced safe for another week. During the particular routine, Derek indeed took his shirt off, a move which he weighed in afterwards. "Maybe I should have kept my shirt on," he wrote.

'Dancing with the Stars' Eliminates Chuck Liddell
October 14, 2009 09:10:47It was time to take out the ax again to shed the "Dancing with the Stars" couple who got the least amount of votes from both jury and audience. In the fifth week of the dancing competition series, UFC Champion Chuck Liddell and his partner Anna Trebunskaya have to walk out of the dance floor after receiving only 17 out of 30 on the performance night and not enough votes from American audience.
Liddell was actually not the lowest scorer on Monday, October 12 night. It was expected that either Michael Irvin or Louie Vito, who received 16 out of 30, would be the one who was kicked out of the competition. Nevertheless, it was Aaron Carter who accompanied Chuck in the bottom two. Carter, together with partner Karina Smirnoff, received the score of 18 out of 30 for their Lambada.

'DWTS' Recap: Mya and Melissa Joan Hart Shared the Top Spot
October 13, 2009 12:10:48Singer Mya and her dancing partner Dmitry Chaplin were top scorers on the Monday, October 12 episode of "Dancing with the Stars". The duo scored a total of 28 points, thanks to their lambada, which earned them an 8 from judge Len Goodman and 10 each from judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli.
"My expectations are really high and I felt in the lambada I was going to get a bit more," Len expressed his disappointment toward their performance. Bruno, however, considered their dance to be an "erotic, exotic roller coaster."

Debi Mazar and Tom DeLay Bow Out of 'Dancing with the Stars'
October 07, 2009 10:10:11Two pairs took the exit on "Dancing with the Stars" this week, one due to the weekly elimination and another due to injury. Receiving the lowest total amount of jury's score and audience vote on Monday, October 5 were Debi Mazar and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy who consequently are out of the game. Tom DeLay meanwhile voluntarily quit because he was in too much pain.
Debi danced the Samba to "Love is in the Air" by John Paul Young but the performance was criticized of lacking the "flavor" although she had all the "ingredients". The actress scored 6-5-6 which makes a total of 17 out of 30, the same score that Chuck Liddell gained. The lowest scorer that night actually was Michael Irvin with 14 but apparently the NFL player had larger fan base voting for him.

'Dancing with the Stars' Claims Third Victim, Kathy Ireland
September 30, 2009 09:09:10Supermodel Kathy Ireland only managed to finish third on "Dancing with the Stars" season 9 after she scored the lowest vote from audience and only 18 out of 30 from the judges on the performance night. Ireland, together with her partner Tony Dovolani did the Quickstep but the judges criticized it for being "uncomfortable".
Almost facing the chopping block were two other pairs who were put on the bottom three. Louie Vito and his dancing partner Chelsie Hightower as well as Debi Mazar and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy scored 19 and 21 out of 30 respectively last night but both were declared "safe".

September 29, 2009 02:09:06Head judge Len Goodman was absent in the second week of "Dancing with the Stars" this season but the execs brought in Baz Luhrmann aka the director of musical hit movie "Moulin Rogue!". The substitution resulted in generous amount of 9s being drawn out from under the table. Aaron Carter and Mya each scored the triple 9 in their respective performances.
The first couple to take the stage on Monday, September 28 was Joanna Krupa and Derek Hough who did the Jive. Carrie immediately made a comment about Joanna's huge hair and her lack in footwork department. Bruno said they need to be exact with Jive and that Joanna lost rhythm sometime. Baz said they have to show more of the relationship because they got great chemistry. Score: 6-7-7, a total 20 out of 30.

'Dancing with the Stars' Split by Gender in Season Premiere
September 07, 2009 02:09:16To keep things fresh, "Dancing with the Stars" will alter its format this season, kicking it off with dancing numbers according to gender. Maksim Chmerkovskiy shared to TV Guide what he knows, revealing that there would be a group dance too in the season premiere.
"This season, everything is a little bit different," Maksim said. "On Monday, I think only male celebrities dance, or the other way around, and on Tuesday, the female celebrities dance." Maksim and his partner Debi Mazar will do the Salsa in the solo performance.

All the 16 contestants have been practicing their moves in the past two weeks and they have additional three weeks to prepare for the September 21 premiere where it is required to dance live.
Some of the celebrities have been doing interviews in promotion of the show as well as in attempt to garner early favor from the audience. Mya, who started her career as a professional dancer, talked about the rehearsal process with partner Dmitry Chaplin, saying "He's doing these drills every day to get me to learn the basics first, 'cause he tells me I can't possibility learn a routine and perform in front of professionals if I don't know the basics."

The network reportedly refuses to let her join the competition in fear that it will interfere with her schedule filming "The Hills" and the new MTV project with Mark Burnett.

Ashley Hamilton May Join 'Dancing with the Stars'

Should the casting report is true, then Ashley will be following his father's footstep in joining the show. In 2006, George was partnered with Edyta Sliwinska but he was the 6th to be eliminated. Both Ty and Melissa were not necessarily on the bottom two but they were not the top scorer based on the judges' score on Monday. Gilles Marini scored a perfect 60 out of 60 while Shawn Johnson scored 56 out of 60. Melissa was slightly under Shawn with 55 out of 60 while Ty scored the lowest with 48 out of 60.

Each of the pairs had to dance twice, a ballroom piece and one Latin style. Gilles and Cheryl picked on Waltz as their ballroom choice, dancing to Norah Jones' "Come Away With Me". In the rehearsal, Cheryl brought in Jonathan Roberts to teach Gilles on how to be a classy man dancer using the concept of 'frame and picture'.

May 06, 2009 01:05:09Lil' Kim has always been on top of the game but after the Monday, May 4 performance, she was let go from "Dancing with the Stars". Receiving only 52 out of 60 from the judges, Kim and her partner Derek Hough were bound to be in the bottom list along with Ty Murray and Chelsie Hightower. But audience apparently were rooting for the rodeo star.
"She's an amazing person, an amazing soul, an amazing spirit and an amazing dancer," Hough said of Kim. The star herself was high in spirit although eliminated. She said, "This is one of the greatest experiences I've ever experienced in my life. I think I brought different viewers."

The axing of Chuck and Julianne was unexpected for they scored 9-9-8 which total to 26 out of 30 with their cha cha cha. Melissa and Tony, on the other hand, were judged based on the rehearsal footage of their Jive and scored 21 out of 30. But apparently the audience favor in the latter couple and vote them to be back next week.

'Dancing with the Stars' Recap: Melissa Rycroft Absent, Lil' Kim Triumphs
April 28, 2009 11:04:22"Dancing with the Stars" is back with 6 couples left, but one has to be benched for injury. Melissa Rycroft was sidelined after suffering from rib pain, but her rehearsal footage will still be shown for judgment to make it fair. Couples were dancing an unlearned routine in the previous weeks.
Gilles Marini and Cheryl Burke kicked it off with Lindy Hop. The type of dance requires a lot of lifts and the fact that Gilles suffered from a shoulder injury sometime ago, did not help during the rehearsals. "I was making a list of famous things from France. French toast, French fries, French kisses, and from today on you can put lindy hop on that list," said Len of the performance. Bruno and Carrie both threw positive notes. The score was 9-9-9, giving it 27 out of 30.

Lawrence Taylor Ends His Run in 'Dancing with the Stars'
April 22, 2009 11:04:59Former NFL star Lawrence Taylor ended his run on "Dancing with the Stars" after getting the lowest combined vote of the judges and the audience. He however, left the dance floor smiling that host Tom Bergeron called him a terrible actor in hiding his excitement to go back to his golf course.
Asked whether he could use some of the moves learned and put it in practice in real life, Lawrence said, "I don't know where the hell I'm going to use it." His partner Edyta Sliwinska then said that she would like a golf training in return.

'Dancing with the Stars' Recap: Melissa Rycroft the 'Maneater'
April 21, 2009 10:04:52Seven remain on the dance floor of "Dancing with the Stars" and in the seventh week, couples will be performing a type of dance that they didn't pick in the past six weeks. Also, starting this week, the couples will preserve the tradition of having a group dance before the show wraps up. Additionally, the costumes of the professional dancers are designed by the celebrities.
First up were Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani doing Argentine tango. To get the idea of "maneater", Melissa was brought to the set of "Desperate Housewives" where she was given a tour by Teri Hatcher. After the performance, Len said that it was a fantastic piece and beautifully executed. Bruno said it was a revenge of the maneater while Carrie complimented the lifts and called it the best Argentine tango ever performed on the show. The score was 10-9-10, giving it 29 out of 30.

April 15, 2009 10:04:03Audience vote can no longer save Steve-O from being eliminated from "Dancing with the Stars". The "Jackass" star and his dancing partner Lacey Schwimmer received the lowest total score as announced on Tuesday, April 14 and therefore leave 7 pairs to battle for the crown.
Steve-O had received low scores from the judges in the past few weeks but accumulated with audience votes, the score managed to put him in the safe zone. On Monday he got 16 out of 30 for his version of Rumba. Len said that "it was no good", and Bruno said that it was simply bad.

April 14, 2009 10:04:11The floor was heated once more when the couples in "Dancing with the Stars" returned on Monday, April 13 to show their new moves. This week, the remaining eight couples performed either of two difficult routines, the energetic Jive or slow and romantic Rumba.
Ty Murray and Chelsie Hightower opened the night with Jive. In order to loosen him up, Chelsie got him to play hula hoop and trampoline, and she also choreographed Texas-two-step-themed jive. Len said that he obviously tried hard but complimented on his effort of giving his best each week. Bruno said that it was a wrong jive while Carrie criticized the footing. The score was 6-6-6, giving it 18 out of 30.

First to hit the floor were Chuck Wicks and Julianne Hough with Viennese waltz. Len said that Chuck has come out of hibernation although some footwork will be required. Bruno saw that Chuck has finally stepped out of Julianne's shadow but Carrie disagreed, saying that Chuck often lost focus and confidence. The score was 7-8-8, giving it 23 out of 30.

Steve Wozniak and Holly Madison Out of 'Dancing with the Stars'
April 01, 2009 09:04:29Two pairs of dancing partner in "Dancing with the Stars" are eliminated on the fourth week of the competition. Computer wiz, Steve Wozniak and his partner Karina Smirnoff has to go home after receiving a rather low score from the judges and not getting enough votes from the audience. Also eliminated are Holly Madison and Dmitry Chaplin.
On Monday, March 30, the couples were performing two kinds of dance that had never been performed in the competition before, Lindy hop and Argentine tango. Opening the night were David Alan Grier and Kym Johnson with lindy. So serious these two in winning the competition that during the rehearsal they came to visit the real routine performed at Lindy Groove in Pasadena. Len thought it was neither the best and the worst out of David but this was tackled by Carrie who thought it was a good one. Bruno gave advice for David to keep his rhythm while dancing fast. The score was 8-7-7, giving it 22 out of 30.

The "Jackass" star and his partner Lacey Schwimmer were working on Salsa in the dress rehearsal but he fell on the mic strapped to his back just two hours before the show began. He, however, must stick to the rule and judged based on the dress rehearsal while Lacey danced alone on the floor. The judges gave them 5-4-5, giving it 14 out of 30 and a two-week total of 31 out of 60.
Kicking off the dancing were Holly Madison and Dmitry Chaplin with quickstep. Len complimented her footwork, but still has problem with her posture like last week. Bruno however, thought it was a rushy performance and Carrie advised that they should balance things up. The score was 6-6-6, giving it 18 out of 30 and a two-week total of 36 out of 60.

"I guess I really over did it on the rehearsal front!" she writes. "My knees have been hurting so badly that I finally broke down and talked to (husband Ty Murray's) knee doctor yesterday. He said I have tendonitis in my knees and that I have to start a course of medicine to try and bring the swelling down. Yuck! It's mainly my left knee, and I can't believe I hurt it so badly."
