Aro of 'New Moon' in the Eyes of Michael Sheen
October 08, 2009 01:10:45"Twilight Saga" fans will get to see Aro come to life in actor Michael Sheen when "The Twilight Saga's New Moon" opens wide in November. In anticipation to the theatrical release, the 40-year-old actor who is no stranger to the supernatural genre movie has made time to talk about his vampire character to USA Today.
"I suppose the Volturi are like the royal family of vampires, and while he is more their spokesperson in the books, he is their leader in the film," Sheen said of Aro. "He's got a sort of regality about him." He then went on, "I like the way director Chris Weitz describes him. On the surface, he is very charming and very warm, sort of likable and soft. But underneath, you get the sense he is a psychopathic killer. I love playing with that idea."
Michael Sheen Teases Part in 'Tron Legacy'
September 15, 2009 09:09:36A little ray of light on what character Michael Sheen will tackle in "Tron Legacy" has been shed by the actor himself. When Coming Soon caught up with him at the Toronto International Film Festival where his "The Damned United" movie premiered, the depicter of Volturi leader Aro in "The Twilight Saga's New Moon" revealed he will play a nightclub host in the virtual world.
"That was amazing, because there's a lot of green screen in that," the 40-year-old shared his excitement on the filming of this "Tron" sequel. He then added, "But my stuff was mainly in this amazing set that they built because I'm a nightclub host, so they built the nightclub and there were hundreds of extras and it was one of those great scenes where there's just loads going on."
More 'New Moon' Photos Coming Out
August 29, 2009 09:08:25Three new images from "The Twilight Saga's New Moon" have followed the footsteps of the five Volturi character stills, coming out for viewing pleasure. These fresh photos still take their focus on the most powerful vampire coven in Italy, but two of them also tease a look at some members of the Cullen family.
One of the pictures sees Dakota Fanning's Jane ushering the apparent Robert Pattinson's Edward and Ashley Greene's Alice into the Volturi's casa. Another photo takes a shot at three Volturi members, Michael Sheen's Aro, Jamie Campbell Bower's Caius and Cameron Bright's Alec, while the other one captures Charlie Bewley's Demetri grabbing Alice by her neck.
'New Moon': Official Photos of Five Volturi Members
August 28, 2009 09:08:33Official images of the Volturi from "The Twilight Saga's New Moon" have been revealed by Summit Entertainment. Unlike the previous picture which gave out only head shots of the coven's five essential members, these new photos capture Aro, Marcus, Caius, Jane and Alec in individual character stills.
The first looks at those characters are each shared exclusively by MySpace, Moviefone, MTV, Examiner and Yahoo! Movies. MySpace brings out Dakota Fanning's Jane, Moviefone presents Jamie Campbell Bower's Caius, MTV unveils Cameron Bright's Alec, and Examiner puts out Christopher Heyerdahl's Marcus. Yahoo!, in the meantime, gives out Michael Sheen's Aro.
Confirmed: Michael Sheen Joins 'Tron Legacy'
July 30, 2009 02:07:22Words on the street that "Frost/Nixon" star Michael Sheen is joining "Tron Legacy" have been proven to be a true one. Walt Disney Pictures has confirmed that the 40-year-old BAFTA-nominated actor has officially become a part of the "Tron" sequel's cast ensemble via Twitter on Wednesday, July 29.
In a response to a confirmation plea made by fansite Michael Sheen Online, the studio tweeted, "Yes, Michael Sheen will have a role in Tron Legacy!" Although coming out with such answer, the mouse house didn't go on further on detailing what character the actor will tackle in the movie. Hence, it is still unclear whether Sheen will be the villain as what has been suggested earlier.
'Bond 23' Villain May Be Found in Michael Sheen
June 17, 2009 09:06:04Only days after reports of scribe Peter Morgan being picked up as "Bond 23" writer, words are coming out that the next Bond movie may tap Michael Sheen as its villain. According to The Daily Express, the 40-year-old actor is in talks to join the project with the likelihood of portraying Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
Of the matter, the British newspaper quoted an unnamed source as saying, "Michael is hot property right now and it is felt that he's the right man to bring Blofeld back to life. Michael was a Bond fan in his youth, so this would be a dream role for him." If the words were true, this would be another of Sheen's collaboration with Morgan as the two had worked together in "Frost/Nixon", "The Queen" and "The Damned United".
Michael Sheen Talks 'New Moon' Experience
June 04, 2009 02:06:24Michael Sheen will be seen in theaters later this year portraying Aro, the leader of the Volturi, in "The Twilight Saga's New Moon", and he has shared his thoughts on taking participation in the highly anticipated vampire drama. In a chat with Empire, the 40-year-old discusses issues from his opinion in playing the secondary role to what he thinks of the young cast.
"I'm all done on it; I had a great time," the BAFTA-nominated actor notes when asked about his Aro role in the movie. "It was nice to go in and not be playing the main part, just go in for a few days and play this really really extraordinary character. I remember I was thinking, 'Oh, there's a bit of a Child Catcher here [from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang]; bit of the Blue Meanie from The Yellow Submarine; bit of Olivier from Richard III. There was a bit of all kinds of stuff."
Aro of 'New Moon' Found in Michael Sheen
April 13, 2009 11:04:05Having portrayed Lucian, vampire clan's biggest threat in "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans", apparently didn't stop Michael Sheen from taking a vampire role in "The Twilight Saga's New Moon". In fact, the 40-year-old actor has been added to the cast ensemble of the "Twilight" sequel as Aro, the leader of an Italy-based vampire coven known by the name of Volturi.
Of Sheen's casting, director Chris Weitz unveiled to Daily Mail that he had "aggressively" pursued the actor for the role. He furthermore explained, "Michael's role is so important because he's the head of all vampires. Aro is, on the surface, a very gracious and friendly vampire, but beneath that he is a tremendous threat."
