Jon Hamm Reveals Premiere Date of 'Mad Men' Season 5
January 10, 2012 09:01:21Jon Hamm has let slip the premiere date of "Mad Men" season 5. Appearing on Friday, January 6's episode of "Doug Loves Movies" with Doug Benson, the lead actor of the period drama series revealed that the show will debut the new season on March 25. AMC, however, has not confirmed the news.
The production of the fifth season was long delayed due to stalled contract negotiations between creator and showrunner Matt Weiner, AMC and Lionsgate, causing the show to go off the air during the entire 2011. The filming of the new chapter was then kicked off in August last year.

The lead actor of the critically acclaimed AMC series has been back on the set to take on the helming duty and was pictured giving a direction to Elisabeth Moss, while co-producer Marcy Patterson, photography director Christopher Manley and executive producer Matthew Weiner were watching.
The photo, which makes its way out via Entertainment Weekly, was taken during the rehearsal shot in Joan Harris' office. Gushing on what he was doing in the image, Ham said, "I don't remember if we were discussing a scene or Albert Pujols' impending free agency, but suffice to say 'directing' is fun!' "

According to Deadline, the "Bridesmaids" actor earns eight figures with this new deal. His old contract locked him for two more seasons, and he gets a huge raise in exchange of an extra year. This way, he follows in the footsteps of creator Matthew Weiner who has also signed up for three more years.

Long negotiations of creator Matthew Weiner's contract with AMC/Lionsgate cause a delay to production of the fifth season, but the actor refused to blame anyone in this case. The negotiations are done in order to lock a fifth season in time for the network's April upfront meetings with advertisers. AMC, which owed most its success to the series, wants integrated product placement into the series, 2 minutes cut from each episode's running time in favor of more commercials and the elimination of two regular cast members to save money.

Jon Hamm meanwhile brought along his long-term girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt to the affair. He detached himself from her for a while to take a picture with the series' creator Matthew Weiner. Children were also present since Weiner decided to take his whole family to the event and Kiernan Shipka aka Sally Draper also walked down the carpet.

A disagreement between AMC and the Broadband TV operator which had been going on for some time has now reached to the point that subscribers won't get to watch the return of "Mad Men".
The deal between AT&T U-verse and Rainbow Media which owns AMC, WE tv and IFC will expire on July 14 midnight. Rainbow has issued a statement, warning the subscribers that some of its channels may go dark after that. "Mad Men" is due to premiere its fourth season on July 25 and if a new deal is not reached until then, 2.3 million subscribers in the country will lose the chance to watch the return episode.

"No one wants to see Don Draper wearing a leisure suit," a spokeswoman for AMC said on Monday, April 19. "We trust Matthew's vision and that he knows where to take the show. But with that said, M*A*S*H figured how to stretch the Korean War for more than a decade, so stay tuned! "
