A Citation Issued Against Cedars-Sinai Regarding Dennis Quaid's Twins' Drug Mix-Up
January 11, 2008 10:01:03In further repercussion on the accidental overdose involving among others the newborn twins of actor Dennis Quaid, the California Department of Public Health has issued a citation against Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, claimed the prestigious Los Angeles hospital's handling of high-risk drugs placed its pediatric patients in immediate jeopardy of harm.
In a 20-pages report, the California Department of Public Health said Wednesday, January 9 that Cedars-Sinai failed to "adhere to established policies and procedures for safe medication use ... These violations caused, or were likely to cause, serious injury or death to the patients who received the wrong medication." Cedars-Sinai, additionally, was also blamed for its "deficient practices" around administrating the drug.

December 05, 2007 09:12:22Dennis Quaid and his wife Kimberly Buffington have on Tuesday December 4th filed a lawsuit against Baxter Healthcare Corp., the makers of the drug Heparin given to their newborn twins, Zoe Grace and Thomas Boone, in an accidental massive overdose last month.
The product liability lawsuit, filed in Chicago, claimed that Baxter Healthcare Corp., based in Deerfield, Ill., was negligent in packaging different doses of the product, on its 10-unit and 10,000-unit, in similar vials with blue backgrounds. The lawsuit furthermore said the company should have recalled the large-dosage vials after overdoses killed three children at an Indianapolis hospital last year.

The twin babies, Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace, were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Sunday November 18th, fighting for their lives after being inadvertently overdosed, TMZ.com reported.
