NBC Renews 'Law and Order: SVU' for 14th Season, Picks Up 'Chicago Fire'
May 10, 2012 01:05:04NBC is another network which orders a new season of its show today. While FOX gives a vote of confidence to newbie "Touch", the Peacock extends the run of veteran show "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit".
The renewal will bring back the police procedural crime drama series for a 14th season next fall. Lead actress Mariska Hargitay had earlier signed a deal that would make sure she reprises her role as Det. Olivia Benson once the network picks up the show for another season.

Mariska Hargitay Inks New Deal to Stay on 'Law and Order: SVU'
April 21, 2012 11:04:20Mariska Hargitay has signed a new contract with Universal Television which produces her long-running show "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit". Under the new deal, she will return as Detective Olivia Benson if the show returns for a 14th season, and makes a reported $500,000 per episode.
Though so, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that it does not necessarily mean the procedural series has secured a new season order. NBC is yet to announce the status of the drama series, which hit a series low (4.4 million viewers and a 1.5 rating in 18-49 demo) with its latest episode.

Taking the coveted prizes in TV field were "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "Tyler Perry's House of Payne" which were named Outstanding Drama and Comedy Series respectively.
Also having a victorious night was Nick Cannon who scored Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series through his stint on "Up All Night". LL Cool J won an accolade for best drama actor through his role on "NCIS: Los Angeles", while Laurence Fishburne was chosen as Outstanding Actor in a Television Movie, Mini-Series or Dramatic Special.

It all starts as Detective Benson and her team are investigating a home invasion which left the parents dead and their teenage daughter in critical condition. When a hate crime investigation turns into a dead end, Benson and the SVU detectives struggle to find a motive for such violence.

The casting news was first shared by TV Guide which also said that Lambert's role would be an actress who has been sexually assaulted by a reality TV producer. Playing her alleged assailant is Oscar nominee Michael McKean.

Their work relationship will then blossom into something more.
Announcing the casting news at Television Critics Association's winter press tour in Pasadena on Friday, January 6, NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt introduced a sneak peek which teases a scene from an upcoming episode. In the footage, Benson and Hadena are featured locking lips after she invited him for a night cap.

In an interview with Allure magazine, Mara said, "It was so awful. So stupid. The NBC series was filming an OWS-themed episode and the protesters saw the set across Manhattan State Supreme Courthouse as a stage for political theater.
"We made it so that they could not exploit us and that's awesome," said Tammy Schapiro of Brooklyn. Another Brooklyn native, Aaron Black said, "We thought we would bring some extras down and add some reality to this show. Why should they be able to put tents up in a public park when we are unable to do that?"

Olivia Benson will get some backups with the arrival of new detectives. Danny Pino and Kelli Giddish have been added to the cast ensemble to portray Det. Nick Amaro and Det. Amanda Rollins, who appear briefly in a promo for the new season.
Offering details about the new faces, newly-hired executive producer Warren Leight said Rollins is "coming out of college with degrees in forensic psychology." He added, "She's self-made, and she's had a lot of book training. She has the kind of training you get now at Quantico. That was missing from the squad room: Somebody who approaches things with actual technical knowledge ... an almost intellectual, academic, very structured approach."

March was a regular from 2000-2003, taking the role of ADA Alexandra Cabot. She had recurring part in several seasons in the past. Neal, meanwhile, played ADA Casey Novak from 2003-2008, and recently appeared in an April episode of season 12.

The former has appeared as Jesus Velasquez on the vampire-themed series since season 3 in addition to taking the role of Nate Moretta on "Parenthood". The latter, meanwhile, played Rene Lenier in the first season of the hit HBO show and starred on short-lived "Terriers". The twosome recently also guest starred on "SVU".

Listed as a guest star, Stone replaced Stephanie March who is the original cast for the Assistant District Attorney role in the series. Completing her stint as Jo Marlowe last season, Stone is now replaced by Patton who will play ADA Mikka Von. This character appears in multiple episodes starting the fifth.
