He will tackle the role of a sexy, laid back basketball player who joins the East Dillon Lions as a wide receiver. His character named Hastings Ruckle is described as a "super, super hot guy who must be over 6 feet tall with a strong athletic build" and has "dark, hippie, party-guy vibe."

The producers have reportedly started telling the cast to be open to other job opportunities so that when the fifth season's production wraps up, they would have had a new project.

The fourth season had its finale on Wednesday, February 10 on DirectTV's 101 Network but it will only debut on NBC this April. Should the report is true, then DirectTV will launch the final season this Fall and NBC will have it starting early next year. Meanwhile, production of season 5 is expected to finish in either June or July, thus the cast are free to pursue pilots that will air in Fall.

Producer Talks Taylor Kitsch's 'Friday Night Lights' Exit

In an interview with E! Online, Katims said, "Taylor is shooting a movie [John Carter of Mars] and it doesn't work out with his schedule to have him on as a series regular for FNL next season." However, Katims said it is not the end of Riggins. "We are planning to have him come back toward the end of the season, and possibly do a couple along the way if we can work it out with production," he added.

The fourth season, therefore, will be another cost-sharing pact between NBC and Direct TV. Additionally, according to THR, the fourth and fifth season will be shot back-to-back in order to save cost. The production will be held in Texas as usual, and the fourth season is expected to air later this fall with the fifth following the next season.

Exclusive Clips of 'Friday Night Lights' Season 3

Eleven exclusive clips that run over 14 minutes are released to give highlights on the new episodes of "". The show will be replayed on NBC with an episode called "I Knew You When" on Friday, January 16.

In the first clip, Coach Taylor holds a press release that recaps the last season but things in real were not as what Taylor told the press. Second clip brings an introduction of Coach Taylor by Principal Julie at a pep rally. Third and fourth clips are on Smash working out with the Coach and the Coach watching JD McCoy at practice.
