'Breaking Bad' Final Season Gets Premiere Date
May 22, 2012 08:05:44The fifth and final season of "Breaking Bad" is indeed going to be split into two parts. AMC has officially announced that the last chapter of the crime drama series will start Sunday, July 15 at 10/9c with eight new episodes, and end with eight more episodes in summer 2013.
Expressing his excitement at the show's return, comedian Aziz Ansari took to Twitter to write, "BREAKING BAD IS BACK JULY 15TH! F**K YES." Sharing the sentiment, fellow fan John Legend retweeted the "30 Minutes or Less" star's post.

Confirmed: 'Breaking Bad' Final Season to Be Split With Four-Month Production Hiatus
April 07, 2012 01:04:23The long speculated two separate runs of "Breaking Bad" final season have been confirmed by the show's lead actor, Bryan Cranston. "We're splitting it," the Emmy Award winner shared. "We're going to shoot the first eight, then take a four-month production break, then the rest will air next year."
AMC has not officially announced the split, but a studio spokesperson has said the four-month production hiatus is "one scenario" that's being considered. According to Entertainment Weekly, the network "wants to divide the final season so it has a strong summer drama airing this year and the next."

While AMC has confirmed that the upcoming fifth season will be the last for the critically acclaimed series, the 31-year-old actor thinks there is more story to be made into two seasons.
"We want to end it on a good note," he told E! Online. "Our creator Vince [Gilligan] always said that the show would probably end around season four, but they stretched it out a bit longer, so there is a bit more story to tell. We will probably split it up between season five and season six."

"I think what AMC is thinking here is there will be less competition for us - particularly from the broadcast networks - if we launch our season during the summer than if we come back again like we did this time in March," lead actor Bryan Cranston told Deadline. The renewal news is confirmed by THR following Variety's report that AMC and Sony Pictures TV are "on the verge" of announcing the pick-up.
With critical acclaims that the series have achieved and the constant rise in rating, the series is a power to AMC. The only hesitation in producing another season is the cost. One episode is roughly taking $3 million which is comparably high for basic cable dramas. Thus, AMC and the studio had to arrange the budgeting before landing a decision with the agreement of AMC paying for budget overruns.
