'Modern Family', 'Mad Men' Lead Nominations of Critics' Choice TV Awards

The ABC drama comedy scores six nods, while the Jon Hamm-starring drama series nabs five at the upcoming inaugural prize-giving ceremony.
The Broadcast TV Journalists Association has unveiled the nominees of the first Critics' Choice Television Awards. Leading the pack is "Modern Family" with six, including the nominations for Best Comedy Series. The category also has "The Big Bang Theory", "Community", "Glee", "The Office", "Parks and Recreation" and "30 Rock" among the nominees.

"Modern Family" additionally has its cast competing for two different awards. Ty Burrell, Ed O'Neill and Eric Stonestreet are fighting to be the Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, while Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara is battling for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Trailing behind "Modern Family" is "Mad Men" which scores five nods including the nomination for Best Drama Series. Critically acclaimed newbie "Game of Thrones" is also eying for the coveted prize, up against the likes of "Boardwalk Empire", "Dexter", "Fringe", "The Good Wife" and "The Walking Dead".

Along with the domination of "Modern Family", ABC comes out as the most nominated broadcast network with 16 nominations, which include two nods for "Dancing with the Stars". AMC and FX, meanwhile, lead nominations for cable networks with nine each. Nominations for The Most Exciting New Series category are yet to be announced on June 6 since the submissions are still being accepted.

The inaugural Critics' Choice TV Awards will hand out its trophies in a ceremony held at the Beverly Hills Hotel on June 20. "So You Think You Can Dance" host Cat Deeley, who happens to be a nominee for Best Reality Show Host, will emcee the show.
