'Black-ish', 'Empire' Are Top TV Nominees of 2016 NAACP Image Awards

The ABC comedy scores ten nominations, while the FOX music drama bags twelve including four nods in music categories.

AceShowbiz - "Black-ish" and "Empire" dominate the list of TV nominations for the 47th annual NAACP Image Awards. The ABC sitcom lands ten nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series which is also vied for by "House of Lies", "Key & Peele", "Orange Is the New Black" and "Survivor's Remorse".

The sophomore comedy helps its stars Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Laurence Fishburne and Marsai Martin earn a nod each in acting categories. Miles Brown is up against Fishburne in Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series race, and is pitted against co-stars Marcus Scribner and Marsai Martin for Outstanding Performance by a Youth. The show also lands a nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series (Kenya M. Barris).

"Empire" nabs eight nominations in TV field, but if you count the show's nods in music categories (four), it leads among other nominees in all genres with a total of 12 nominations. The Lee Daniels-co-created series eyes Outstanding Drama Series, facing up against "Being Mary Jane", "How to Get Away with Murder", "Power" and "Scandal".

Terrence Howard is nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series, while Taraji P. Henson joins Gabrielle Union ("Being Mary Jane") Kerry Washington ("Scandal"), Nicole Beharie ("Sleepy Hollow") and Viola Davis ("How to Get Away with Murder") in contention to be Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series.

The hit FOX drama earns two nods in Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Bryshere Y. Gray and Jussie Smollett) and one in Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Grace Gealey). Co-creators Daniels and Danny Strong are additionally picked as nominees for Outstanding Writing in a Dramatic Series.

Also collecting multiple nominations are "How to Get Away with Murder", "American Crime", "Scandal" and "Orange Is the New Black" among others. Network wise, ABC leads the pack with a total of 28 noms, followed by BET with 13 mentions.

The winners in all categories, including movie and music, will be announced in a two-hour ceremony that will be broadcast live Friday, February 5 at 9 P.M. ET (PT tape-delayed) on TV One.
