AceShowbiz - It seems that 2015 was a cursed year for many Hollywood couples. From celebrities who had spent years of togetherness and have child(ren) together to those who just had started marriages, a number of celebrity couples called it quits this year. To give a look back to some of the heartbreaking news, AceShowbiz has listed Top 10 Shocking Celebrity Splits in 2015.
The bad news began to come from some couples in early of the year, but some of the most shocking ones came like a bolt in the summer. While most couples on the list were married ones, some unmarried couples who had longtime relationships and even have child(ren) together also surprisingly ended their relationships this year.
While Avril Lavigne was still recovering from Lyme disease, she announced on Instagram on September 2 that she divorced Chad Kroeger after two years of marriage. The news came as a shock given that in April the "Girlfriend" singer praised her ex-husband for being supportive of her when she's suffering from the infectious disease. The two had previously been hit with split rumors but Chad set the record straight. He said in an interview last year that he found the rumors amusing.
While the reason of their split remains unclear, the Nickelback frontman reportedly had told people that their marriage was on the rocks. "It's over," a source claimed. "[Chad] has been going around L.A. telling people that they are divorcing."
Kaley Cuoco's search for "the one" seemed to be over when she married Ryan Sweeting just three months after they began dating. But there's no such a thing called a happy ending. In late September, less than two years after they walked down the aisle, the couple announced their divorce. The Penny of "The Big Bang Theory" removed all photos involving Ryan from her social media accounts prior to the split announcement. On the other hand, Ryan completely cleaned up all photos from his Instagram account and deactivated his Facebook page.
Following the divorce, Kaley clearly wants to remove any traces related to her ex-husband from her life. The blonde beauty removed her wedding ring and covered her wedding date tattoo with insect tattoo. She said on Instagram of the tattoo, "Note to self- do not mark your body with any future wedding dates #under30mistakes."
Earlier this year, Jon Hamm and his longtime partner Jennifer Westfeldt were hit with a split rumor saying that the actress dumped him before he voluntarily checked into a 30-day rehabilitation program to overcome his alcohol addiction. Jon's rep debunked the rumors in April as saying that the actor received support from Jennifer while he's in rehab.
Just 5 months after Jon's rep shot down the split rumors, the actor announced that he and Jennifer had decided to end their relationship. However, it wasn't Jon's addiction to alcohol which caused them to call it quits on their romance. Rumor has it, the couple decided to end their 18-year relationship in early September because both of them had different views on family.
Longtime couple Patrick Dempsey and Jillian Fink announced their divorce on January 23 after 15 years of marriage. Their split announcement came as a shock given that there were no rumors about their troubled marriage. In Jillian's divorce papers, she asked for a joint custody of their three children, 13-year-old daughter Tallulah Fyfe, and 8-year-old twins Sullivan Patrick and Darby Galen, in addition to spousal and child support.
Nearly a year after the divorce papers were filed, both Patrick and Jillian were spotted holding hands as they strolled in Paris. The two were pictured taking a ride in the city. However, there's no confirmation whether or not they're getting back together as a couple.
Dating for six years before walking down the aisle didn't guarantee a lasting marriage for Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green. The couple, who kept their personal lives low key, decided to go separate ways in August after five years of marriage. Having two children together, the two agreed to have joint custody of their sons Noah (2) and Bodhi (1).
In court documents responding to Megan's divorce filing, Brian asked for spousal support. The "Beverly Hills, 90210" alum's decision to ask spousal support was supposedly because he hasn't worked since a car accident in 2014 which left him with serious medical condition called vertigo.
When rumors saying that Halle Berry would divorce Olivier Martinez spread like wildfire earlier this year, multiple sources claimed that it's untrue and insisted that the 49-year-old actress just lost her engagement ring. A few months after some sources denied their rocky relationship, the couple decided to end their two-year marriage in late October.
The pair have a son together named Maceo. As the couple reportedly had a prenup with an amicable plan for custody of their son, they were expected to have a quick divorce. Of what prompted their failed marriage, one source claimed it was partly because Olivier felt "emasculated" by Halle. "Everything about her emasculated him: She was beautiful, iconic, employed and the breadwinner," said the source. "He's not happy she's the breadwinner."
While Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick never tied the knot, both of them had been in relationship since 2007 and are parents to three children. Apparently fed up with his reckless lifestyle, Kourtney decided to end their long-term relationship in July after pictures of Scott cozying up to his ex-girlfriend Chloe Bartolli in Monaco went viral. It was even more shocking given that it's less than a year after Kourtney gave birth to their third child Reign. Both of them are also parents to 6-year-old son Mason and 3-year-old daughter Penelope.
Following the split, Scott reportedly made every effort to reconcile with his longtime partner Kourtney. However, Scott was spotted getting cozy with another girl, Canadian model Lindsay Vrckovnik, in late September, who later denied having special relationship with him. In the following months, Scott's relationship with Kourtney and her family was getting better to the point that he joined the famous family for Thanksgiving dinner. Nevertheless, both Scott and Kourtney haven't reunited as a couple. Kourtney clearly enjoys being single as she has been pictured hanging out with different guys including Justin Bieber and P. Diddy's son Quincy.
Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale's divorce came like a bolt out of the blue. The "Used to Love You" singer filed for divorce from Gavin in August, after 13 years of marriage. Following the divorce, the pair, who are parents to three sons, 9-year-old Kingston, 7-year-old Zuma and 1-year-old Apollo, agreed to a joint physical custody of them in October.
Rumor has it, Gavin was cheating on Gwen with an ex-nanny who took care of their children. The "Don't Speak" singer reportedly learned of her ex-husband's affair by discovering sexts linked to an iPad for one of their kids. Nevertheless, Gwen has moved on since the split. She has found new love in country singer Blake Shelton, whom she called "a pretty rad guy" who helped her cope with her divorce.
Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert had been hit with split rumors many times, but they always managed to convince people that there was no trouble in paradise by laughing them off. Nevertheless, on July 20 the country music couple announced their divorce, which was finalized on the same day, after four years of marriage. There were rumblings about them having extramarital affairs, but Blake and Miranda showed that they remained friendly by having hilarious Twitter exchange following the separation.
Just four months later, Blake has already moved on by dating his fellow "The Voice" coach Gwen Stefani. While they remained coy on their romance despite a confirmation by a rep for the "Sangria" singer, the new lovers weren't shy to show affection to each other on various occasions. On the other hand, Miranda has just started seeing Anderson East. Apparently falling in love with him, she reportedly "gets butterflies" when she's with him.
Though rumors about Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's rocky relationship had been swirling around since his acceptance speech at the 2013 Academy Awards, in several public outings both of them showed that they were still one of the most envied couples. When people were sure that their relationship stayed strong, the two announced their separation, just a day after their 10th wedding anniversary on June 29.
Following the divorce announcement, Ben and Jennifer, who are parents to three children, 10-year-old Violet, 6-year-old Seraphina and 3-year-old Samuel, agreed that they would live on the same property in L.A., though in separate houses, to co-parent their children. The co-parenting commitment seems to work well as the two were often spotted together in family outings following the shocking announcement.
