AceShowbiz - Ben Affleck's children - Violet, 19, Seraphina, 16, and Samuel, 13- whom he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner have never been ones to hold back their thoughts about his work in Hollywood. During a recent appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", the actor shared some humorous anecdotes about how his kids criticized his films, often brutally, in real-time.
"They don't censor their criticism," said the Oscar-winning actor. "They'll sit right next to me watching a movie and while it's happening [say], 'This is terrible. I mean, this is terrible. Why did you do this?' " he recounted with a laugh. He even joked that his kids should at least "wait until" the film was over before offering their harsh reviews.
One particular instance during the COVID-19 pandemic stood out to Affleck when he decided to show the kids his 1998 sci-fi drama "Armageddon." He recalled, "Almost immediately, it was like, 'What? What is this? This is so stupid. Are you kidding me?' "
His son Samuel found the movie especially lacking in logic, a point to which Affleck humorously responded, "This is not a logic-based film! That is not one of the criteria we used making this!"
Despite the tough love, Affleck shared a turn of events with the recent premiere of "The Accountant 2," where his children's reaction was unexpectedly positive. "They liked it," Affleck said.
Taken aback by their approval, he thought there was a catch. "They were shocked as if I got lucky, like this magical accident happened and something I did was OK!" he added.
The actor also touched on his parenting style, explaining how he wants his children to experience the value of hard work. While promoting the film on "Today With Jenna & Friends," he mentioned that although he wants to "give them everything and do everything for them," he believes it would be a "disservice."
This reality became clear when he refused to buy his youngest, Samuel, a pair of $6,000 sneakers in a viral video in March. He wanted the boy to learn the importance of earning and saving money through everyday tasks like mowing lawns.
Affleck also formed a close bond with his ex-wife Jennifer Lopez's twins, Emme and Max, who supported him at "The Accountant 2" premiere despite the couple's split. "I'm thrilled that the kids are here with me. The relationships that you can have with children like that, it's the joy of my life," he shared.
