AceShowbiz - The 2nd annual American Music Awards has just unveiled its nominees. Jason Aldean leads the pack with a total of eight nods along with Zac Brown Band. New act Thompson Square follow with seven nominations, and Taylor Swift, along with another newcomer The Band Perry, trail behind the husband/wife duo with six each.

Aldean, Zac Brown and Swift battle each other to win Artist of the Year along with Kenny Chesney and Lady Antebellum. Aldean and Chesney additionally bump into one another in Male Artist of the Year which also lists Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley and Blake Shelton among the contenders.

Zac Brown and Lady A are dueling in Duo or Group Artist of the Year, joining the Band Perry, Sugarland and Rascal Flatts. Swift, meanwhile, is one of the strong contenders for Female Artist of the Year. To win the award, she has to beat the likes of Sara Evans, Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood.

Although Thompson miss the top honor nod, the duo still have a chance to take home an Artist of the Year trophy in New Artist category. They are facing off the Band Perry, Jerrod Niemann, Miranda Lambert's newly-formed group Pistol Annies, and "American Idol" winner Scotty McCreery who recently made Billboard Hot 200 history.

Aldean gets his third nomination in Album of the Year, thanks to his latest effort "My Kinda Party". He is going head to head once again with Zac Brown ("You Get What You Give"), Swift ("Speak Now"), Chesney ("Hemingway's Whiskey") and Paisley ("This Is Country Music"). Keith Urban joins them in the battle through "Get Closer".

None of those six nominees receive a nod in Single of the Year though, except for Zac Brown. The band are vying for the prize through their duet with Alan Jackson in "As She's Walking Away". In this category, they face off Billy Currington ("Let Me Down Easy"), Tim McGraw ("Felt Good on My Lips"), Thompson ("Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not"), and Chris Young ("Voices").

Aldean receives the rest of his nods in Single of the Year: Male, Single of the Year: Vocal Collaboration, Touring Headline Act of the Year, Music Video: Male, and Music Video: Duo, Group or Collaboration. Swift, meanwhile, makes up her six nominations in Single of the Year: Female, Touring Headline Act of the Year, and Music Video: Female.

Winners will be determined via fans voting which opens on the ACA official website starting October 13 until November 11. Voting for the Artist of the Year category, however, will run until December 2, three days before the star-studded gala which will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Trace Adkins and Kristin Chenoweth are tapped to host.
