Ben Affleck's First Reaction When Being Cast as Batman: 'Are You Sure?'

The 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' actor was surprised just like many fans of DC comics when Zack Snyder offered him to play the Caped Crusader.

AceShowbiz - Ben Affleck was just like many fans of DC comics who were caught pretty off guard when hearing he had been cast as the next Batman. Ben tells Entertainment Weekly about his reaction when Zack Snyder offered him to play the Caped Crusader, "My first reaction was, 'Are you sure?' "

The "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" actor explains, "At the time I was 40, 41, and had just finished 'Argo', and I felt like 'This seems like a strange way to get to Batman.' But Zack convinced me." He adds that the movie plays up Batman's age, as well as the dissolute cad side of Bruce Wayne.

"He really keeps up the image of the playboy, actively," Ben says of his Batman character, "So you have more of a dichotomy which I thought was really fun, and a little sad, like the aging playboy."

Another reason Ben took the gig is because he thinks the venture could benefit his own behind-the-scenes pursuits. "I thought if I was going to direct a movie like this, which I would like to do at some point, I need to have something of a refresher course of how these movies are done," says the "Gone Girl" actor, indirectly referencing rumors he is already in line to direct himself in a standalone Batman movie.

"Dawn of Justice", also starring Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons and Holly Hunter is set to be released in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D in the U.S. on March 25, 2016.
