Snoop's good friend before and while they were label mates, and the racketeering accusation of Death Row co-founder Suge Knight. This caused Snoop to draw his back a bit from hard-core gangsta rap, decided to perform along the hard rock Lollapalooza tour in 1997, and make several film appearances. In between the year of 1998 to 2000, the star kept producing more music albums, naming that of "Da Game Is to Be Sold Not to Be Told" which was certified two times Platinum, "No Limit Top Dogg" that spawned the hit singles "Bitch Please" and "Down 4 my N'z", and "Tha Last Meal".
Additionally, he also started producing and directing music videos for himself and other artists, before then in 2001 released an autobiography. On top of that, in 2002 Snoop announced his giving up drinking and drugs that he later that year could favorably release his next solo album, "Paid tha Cost to Be da Bo$$," which featured the hit singles and videos "From Da Chuuuch to Da Palace" and "Beautiful" among others, featuring guest vocal by The Neptunes' Pharrell Williams. Even with sound that has been heavily influenced by funk and R&B, Snoop Dogg's music has somehow represented samples from earlier black artists and groups, including James Brown, Marvin Gaye, and Parliament. Famous for his talent in using slang invented by fellow rapper E-40, much of which is simply derived by adding an "izz" or "izzle" sound to the word, a large number of Snoop's songs also mention "the LBC," a reference to the city of Long Beach, the Long Beach Crips or Long Beach, California.
