Shortly after bringing tears to the eyes of stars like David Oyelowo and Chris Pine with their rendition of the 'Selma' track, Common and Legend accepted the Best Original Song trophy.

AceShowbiz - Common and John Legend's performance was one of the highlights of the 87th Annual Academy Awards. Taking the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday night, February 22, the duo moved some A-listers in the audience to tears as they delivered a powerful rendition of their collaboration "Glory".

Legend opened the performance singing the hook while sitting at the piano. Common emerged later to rap his inspiring verses while a choir of singers recreated the bridge scene from the movie "Selma". During the song, David Oyelowo, Oprah Winfrey and even Chris Pine were caught on camera shedding tears.

Following the performance that ended with standing ovation from the crowd, Common and Legend returned to the stage after "Glory" was announced as the winner in Best Original Song category. The track bested fellow nominees including "Lost Stars" from "Begin Again", "Grateful" from "Beyond the Lights", "I'm Not Gonna Miss You" from "Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me" and "Everything Is Awesome" from "The Lego Movie".

"We wrote this song for a film that was based on events that were 50 years ago, but we say that Selma is now because the struggle for justice is right now," Legend said during his acceptance speech. "We live in the most incarcerated country in the world. There are more black men under correctional control today than were under slavery in 1850. When people are marching with our song, we want to tell you, 'We are with you. We see you. We love you. And march on.' "

Common and Legend were hardly the only performers at the Oscars. Lady GaGa paid tribute to "The Sound of Music" with a special medley of the songs from the musical like "The Sound of Music", "My Favorite Things", "Edelweiss" and "Climb Every Mountain" before "Sound of Music" star Julie Andrews walked onto the stage.

Other names in the line-up included Tegan and Sara, Adam Levine and Rita Ora who performed their respective nominated track. Tim McGraw filled in for Glen Campbell who couldn't make it to the show to perform "I'm Not Gonna Miss You". Jennifer Hudson, meanwhile, sang "I Can't Let Go" from NBC's hit series "Smash" during the "In Memoriam" segment that honored stars who passed away in the past year.
