Real Reason Rupert Wyatt Leaves 'Gambit' Revealed

The director didn't leave the project due to a scheduling conflict, but he reportedly left because he's not committed to the project and had a different vision.

AceShowbiz - Scheduling conflict is the most frequent reason used for leaving a project although sometimes it's not the real reason. The same thing seemingly happened to director Rupert Wyatt, who dropped out of "Gambit (2016)", as a recent report said that the real reason he left the project was because he's not really committed to moving ahead on the project.

A source close to the production revealed that the split happened after 20th Century Fox questioned Wyatt about his commitment to the project and the director was reportedly not sure about that. "Ambivalence is not a good way to go into an expensive movie," the insider said.

Another reason the director left the project was vision differences. Sources said that the studio didn't accept his creative vision for "Gambit". "I think he's a very principled guy. He wants to make the best version of something, and he's so desperately afraid of making something not good that it's easier to walk away than be pushed by committee," said one studio exec of Wyatt.

This is not the first time that Wyatt has left a big project. After successfully helming "Rise of the Planet of the Apes", he became a high-in-demand director and was offered some major projects. He was attached to direct "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes", but he passed on the project. Wyatt also signed a deal with Sony to helm "The Equalizer" before finally turning down the deal.

Channing Tatum will portray the card-throwing mutant in the movie which plot is still under wraps. "Gambit" is due to arrive in the U.S. on October 7, 2016.
