The third and fourth installments of 'Bad Boys' movie series will hit U.S. theaters on February 17, 2017, and July 3, 2019 respectively with Joe Carnahan eyed to write the third movie.

AceShowbiz - With a bunch of projects in the works, Sony Pictures Entertainment has set its slate through 2017 which includes two follow-ups to "Bad Boys 2". The studio has announced that "Bad Boys 3" and "Bad Boys 4" will hit U.S. theaters on February 17, 2017, and July 3, 2019 respectively, confirming that those two movies are happening.

Rumor about "Bad Boys 3" first surfaced in 2009 with Peter Craig reported to write the script. It was expected to come up with the script that would reunite director Michael Bay, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and two leading stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Following the rumor, Smith stated that the film wasn't getting made because Bay was too expensive at the time.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer said in April 2014 that "Bad Boys 3" dealt with a matter of bad timing. However, speculations about the third installment of "Bad Boys" movie series resparked when Lawrence visited "CONAN" back in April 2014 and declared that the action comedy film had been in the works.

A solid plan came in June when Smith would soon wrap his work on David Ayer's "Suicide Squad". Sony eyed Joe Carnahan to rewrite the existing script by David Guggenheim ("Safe House"), and possibly direct the movie. As Bay was reported to be too expensive for the project, Carnahan seems to be a likely candidate to helm "Bad Boys 3" as he has experiences with big-budget action movies such as "The A-Team", "The Grey", "Smoking Aces" and "Narc".
