'The Martian' and 'Joy' score multiple nods in comedy category while 'Creed' earns Sylvester Stallone his first Golden Globe nods in years.

AceShowbiz - The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announces nominees for the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards with the help from movie and TV stars like Angela Bassett, America Ferrera, Chloe Moretz, and Dennis Quaid at the Beverly Hilton. "Carol" leads the pack with five nods, followed by "The Revenant", "Steve Jobs", and "The Big Short" with four each.

Both "Carol" and "The Revenant" are up for the best drama along with three other movies "Mad Max: Fury Road", "Room", and "Spotlight". 20th Century Fox's moves to submit "The Martian" and "Joy" as comedy seem to pay off as the two flicks are nominated as best comedy along with "The Big Short", "Spy", and "Trainwreck".

In the comedy category, "Joy" star Jennifer Lawrence also has a chance to win best actress prize along with Amy Schumer, Maggie Smith, Lily Tomlin, and Melissa McCarthy. Meanwhile, "Martian" hero Matt Damon is vying for best actor alongside Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Al Pacino, and Mark Ruffalo.

In the drama category, Cate Blanchett is pitted against her co-star Rooney Mara for best actress. They are joined in the stiff competition by Saoirse Ronan, Brie Larson, and Alicia Vikander. Leonardo DiCaprio is up for best actor and so are Michael Fassbender, Bryan Cranston, Eddie Redmayne, and Will Smith.

One of the surprises this year is Sylvester Stallone. 39 years after his first and only Golden Globe nod for his role as Rocky in the original film, the actor lands his second nomination for reprising his role in the spinoff "Creed". He is battling it out against Idris Elba, Mark Rylance, and Michael Shannon.

Also honoring the best TV works in 2015, the next Golden Globes will take place on January 10, 2016 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Airing live on NBC at 5:00 P.M. PST / 8:00 P.M. EST, it will be hosted by Ricky Gervais.
