Katy Perry, Adele and Kanye West Dominate Nomination List of 2011 MTV VMAs

The 'E.T.' hitmaker gets nine nominations at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, while the 'Set Fire to the Rain' crooner and the 'Heartless' rhymer follow with seven each.

AceShowbiz - The full nomination list of the upcoming 2011 MTV Video Music Awards has been revealed on Wednesday night, July 20. Taking the most nods are Katy Perry, Adele and Kanye West. The "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)" singer leads the pack with nine nominations, and the "Rolling in the Deep" hitmaker and the "Heartless" rapper trail behind her with seven each.

Katy and Adele are fighting against each other in all of the seven nods the Brit got. The battles include vying for top honor, Video of the Year. Beside facing off each other, the female singer also has to compete with the likes of Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All's member Tyler, The Creator, trio Beastie Boys and crooner Bruno Mars.

Katy, who got only two nods in 2010, receives her multiple nods this year for her "Firework", "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" and "E.T.". In the latest one, the wife of comedian Russell Brand shares screen with Kanye with whom she is fighting over Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction, Best Editing and Best Special Effects.

While Katy multiples her last-year nominations, Lady GaGa who was the 2010 big winner only gets three nods, a far cry to what she got during the announcement of the last year nominees. The Mother Monster is vying for Best Female Video ("Born This Way") as well as Best Art Direction and Best Choreography, both thanks to "Judas".

The other artists who receive more than one nomination include Beyonce Knowles, Britney Spears, Eminem, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, 30 Seconds to Mars and Linkin Park. Among those VMAs vets, there are some newcomers who are lined up for Best New Artist contenders. They are Foster the People, Wiz Khalifa, Tyler, The Creator, Big Sean and Kreayshawn.

Last year's winner for that category was Justin Bieber for his hit "Baby". This year, the Canadian singer returns to the nomination list by vying for Best Male Video for his "U Smile" clip. He is battling against Cee-Lo Green ("F*** You"), Eminem ("Love the Way You Lie"), Bruno ("Grenade") and Kanye ("All of the Lights").

2011 MTV VMAs is going to air live from Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles on August 28. Lil Wayne was recently said to be one of the musical guests, but official performers won't be announced until later this month. Fans can vote for winners by visiting vma.mtv.com beginning July 20. For Best New Artist, they can additionally determine the winner by texting BNA to 66333.
