With Daniel and Wilhelmina both sharing the duties of editor-in-chief, the first photo shoot is a disaster: Daniel wants a war-themed "Love is a Battlefield," while Wilhelmina shows up with dozens of puppies for a "Puppy Love" motif, creating double the work for everyone at the magazine.

After his brief brush with fatherhood, Daniel decides he's ready for a family of his own. "The women I've been meeting aren't exactly life mates," he complains to Claire. "My clock is ticking." "Your father conceived a child after he was dead. You'll be fine," Claire says.

Daniel joins a dating service and his first date ends up being with -- Wilhelmina. They're stuck together on a dinner cruise and forced to come up with a joint plan to end the evening early. They realize they make a fairly good team and the next day, Wilhelmina announces they're going with Daniel's idea for the center spread.

Kimmie Keegan -- Betty's nemesis from high school -- shows up at Mode, begging Betty for a job. "You know how you told me I could do better? Turns out, I can't. My life has been a downhill slide into suck since high school. I thought you could help me turn things around." Over Betty's protests, Daniel hires Kimmie on the spot. At first, it's a dream come true as Kimmie is as much a fashion disaster and klutz as Betty ever was. But Betty decides to forgive Kimmie for all the cruel pranks she pulled in high school and to show Kimmie the ropes at Mode.

Betty is thrilled when Kimmie, who's finally decided Betty is a friend, plans a night of clubbing for the two of them. But she realizes it's all a ploy when Kimmie persuades Betty to go in late to work the next day but is there herself bright and early. Kimmie's photo is in all the papers and since Daniel is pleased with the exposure for Mode, Betty sees a way to get rid of Kimmie by suggesting Daniel make her the magazine's "club girl." Her recommendation backfires when Daniel names Kimmie associate editor. Betty reels in horror to see that the old Kimmie has returned, worse than ever, "I should thank you, but I won't. Because I'm popular. And popular people aren't nice to unpopular people," Kimmie says smugly.

Hilda is channeling all her grief over losing Tony into coaching Justin in his big tryout for a Broadway play. Justin has his heart set on landing the lead in Billy Elliot and is taken aback to see Randy, the jock who bullies him at school, also trying out for the part. The two former rivals find common ground, however, when both are passed over. Justin takes pity on Randy when he sees him crying after the audition but Randy tells him to go away. However at school, Randy tells Justin, "Maybe we'll hang out sometime."
