The passing news was announced by Joey's husband Rory Feek through a blog titled "A Dream Come True". "My wife's greatest dream came true today. She is in Heaven. The cancer is gone, the pain has ceased and all her tears are dry," he wrote. "Joey is in the arms of her beloved brother Justin and using her pretty voice to sing for her savior."
"At 2:30 this afternoon, as we were gathered around her, holding hands and praying... my precious bride breathed her last. And a moment later took her first breath on the other side," he continued.
Rory also revealed his plan for the years ahead, saying that he would return to his and her late wife's farm house in Pottsville, Tennessee. "It's hard for me to imagine being there without Joey, but at the same time ... it is where she wants us to be," he noted. "It's where she will be ... Joey will still be with us. Everywhere."
Joey, who was 40 years old at the time of her death, was diagnosed with cervical cancer in May 2014, just four months after giving birth to daughter Indiana. She had since undergone a series of surgeries and received chemotherapy and radiation. However, in October 2015, doctors announced that the disease was aggressively spreading.
