Nine months after her fight with Chris Brown, Rihanna breaks her silence about the incident in an interview with the December issue of Glamour magazine. To Laurie Sandell she opens up about how she coped with the assault that put her and Chris under international headlines.
"I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears," so she says in the revealing interview. "That was the level of media chaos that happened the next day. What, there are helicopters circling my house? There are 100 people in my cul-de-sac? What do you mean, I can't go back home?"
Making the situation even worse was the leak of her photo taken by police after the fight that showed her bruised face. When asked why she kept her lips tightly sealed regarding the matter, the songstress explains, "It was humiliating; that is not a photo you would show to anybody. I felt completely taken advantage of. I felt like people were making it into a fun topic on the Internet, and it's my life. I was disappointed, especially when I found out the photo was [supposedly leaked by] two women."
Rihanna, however, can draw silver lining from all the bad things that have happened to her and move on. "It has taught me so much ... The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn't heard. Now I can help speak for those women," she tells Glamour magazine. "I'm stronger, wiser and more aware. You don't realize how much your decisions affect people you don't even know, like fans."
Rihanna then goes on offering advice for young women, stating "Domestic violence is a big secret. No kid goes around and lets people know their parents fight. Teenage girls can't tell their parents that their boyfriend beat them up. You don't dare let your neighbor know that you fight. It's one of the things we [women] will hide, because it's embarrassing. My story was broadcast all over the world for people to see, and they have followed every step of my recovery."
In related news, Rihanna is slated to be honored at Glamour's annual Women of the Year event Monday, November 9 at New York's Carnegie Hall.

i love rihanna and i hate chris brown:(
Like I’ve said before, I am so very proud of both Chris Brown and Rihanna for speaking out on the heinous crime of domestic violence – no matter the why’s, how’s and when’s of it all. We VERY RARELY get to hear from the abuser concerning his (or her) contribution to the “incident”, how he feels about it, his remorse, his conviction of the crime, and his pennance to right the wrongs. What’s even better here in the Chris Brown / Rihanna saga is that we also get to see the transgressor (Chris Brown) redeem himself in a VERY public fashion by pleading for forgiveness (over & over & over…) and the opportunity for redemption. I can’t EVER remember a celebrity who has done such a wrong and then has humbly, vulnerably, and sacrificially put all that he has/is at the feet of the pitchforked and heavily opinionated, fickle public. And he’s doing it all at just 20 years old. This young man really is a MAN – who had a moment! And now he’s coming back to himself – renewed and retooled. As long as he continues to show and prove (and not continually apologize) his willingness and ability to change, learn and grow from the “incident”, then he will have my $15 on 12/08/09 and my continued support and prayers (and Rihanna too!).
If anyone still would like to berate, hound and otherwise make Chris Brown’s life and career miserable because of an admitted “mistake” that he is currently paying the price for (for now and many years to come most likely), then they should spread the hate around then. And there’s plenty of spreading to do. If we are all supposed to hate on and boycott Chris Brown, then let’s add these other celebrities to the list also: r&b singer JOE; rapper DR. DRE; actor/singer TERRENCE HOWARD; actor/talent judge DAVID HASSELHOFF; actor CHRISTIAN BALE; singer PAUL MCCARTNEY; actor WESLEY SNIPES (beat actress Halle Berry); rapper TREACH (from Naughty by Nature beat “Pepa” from Salt N Pepa); actor TOM SIZEMORE; actor BILL MURRAY; football player SEAN MERRIMAN; christian singer BEBE WINANS; “Soul Train” host DON CORNELIUS; “Girls Gone Wild” founder JOE FRANCIS; child actor GARY COLEMAN; singer AXL ROSE; basketball players DELONTE WEST & DENNIS RODMAN; singer BOBBY BROWN; singer TYRESE (accused of Punching Pregnant Girlfriend); singer JAMES BROWN; actor DARIUS MCCRARY (Eddie Winslow from “Family Matters”); singer SCOTT STAPP (Creed); sports announcer JIM LAMPLEY; baseball player DMITRI YOUNG and the list goes on & on & on…
