AceShowbiz - It's that time of the year again when celebrities go big with their costume for an annual charity event. The likes of Cardi B, Katy Perry and the Kardashian-Jenner clan were among the biggest stars who stole attention with their looks on the pink carpet of the 2019 Met Gala.
Arriving at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday night, May 6, Cardi wore an extravagant ruby red gown featuring a larger-than-life skirt, feathered shoulders and a beaded cap. The dress, designed by Thom Browne, took more than 2,000 hours to execute and 35 people to work on it.
According to Vogue, the hand-embroidered dress was adorned with 30,000 burned and dyed coque feathers. "I designed this dress for Cardi specifically because she has the ultimate beauty in a woman's body, and that is what the dress is about for me: taking advantage of that beauty," Browne told the publication.
Katy literally lit up the event in her double chandelier ensemble, designed by Moschino. She wore a short bejeweled dress with matching jewel-encrusted headpiece and shoes as light bulbs surrounded her hips and stomach. She came without her fiance Orlando Bloom, but was joined by Moschino designer Jeremy Scott.
Going bold to comply with the theme which is "Camp: Notes on Fashion", Jared Leto stunned as he carried a fake severed head of himself. He went glamor with his outfit, wearing a red Gucci gown, with long sleeves and a body jewelry piece.
Kendall Jenner went on full festive mode in a bright orange Versace gown, which featured feathers and beads with a deep v-neckline. She and her sister Kylie Jenner came with the idea together while brainstorming this year's looks. "Kylie and I worked together on it and we came up with a fun vibe with Donatella [Versace]. We're really happy with it," she told E! on the pink carpet.
Kylie also went glamorous in a lilac dress with bejeweled bustiers and semi-sheer fishnet skirt featuring leathers on the sleeves and the half-lower part of the skirt. She wore matching purple wig as she was joined by longtime boyfriend Travis Scott (II).
Kim Kardashian wore a shimmering nude ensemble, designed by Mugler, which accentuated her famous curves, while her long raven hair was styled in wet and wavy look. "He just envisioned me this California girl stepping out of the ocean, on the red carpet, wet, dripping, that is the vibe tonight," Kim said of Thierry Mugler who designed her dress that night. Her husband Kanye West opted for casual ensemble consisting of black jacket and pants.
Momager Kris Jenner also stood out in a wide-leg navy blue Tommy Hilfiger jumpsuit with a winged tulle tiered jacket to channel late rock star David Bowie. She sported blonde hair, which was suggested by her daughter Kylie. "A couple of hours ago Kylie decided that I should be blonde. 'Mom, there's no black hair tonight. You should be blonde,' " she said.
Jennifer Lopez wowed in a bedazzled Versace dress that was dripped in diamonds from head to toe. She wore matching headpiece and even rocked a purple sapphire and diamond necklace by Harry Winston. Her fiance Alex Rodriguez wore lilac tuxedo jacket to match her purple eyeshadow.
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas were among other couples who came to the event together. The Indian-born actress turned heads in a semi-sheer silver dress with colorful feathers on the skirt. She sported big curly hair, topped with a crown-like headpiece. Her husband matched her look in a white suit with bedazzled collar and shoes. He also wore Chopard cuff earrings while sporting thin mustache.
Kicking off the celebrity arrivals that night was co-chair Lady GaGa, who had costume changes on the pink carpet, before stripping down to her black bra and panties. Other big stars attending the event included Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth, Celine Dion, Gwen Stefani, Serena Williams, Lupita Nyong'o, Bella Hadid and Nicki Minaj.
