"American Idol" is so close to crowning the winner of its 15th and last season. After the special retrospective called "American Dream" on Tuesday night, Dalton Rapattoni, La'Porsha Renae and Trent Harmon were back on the stage on Wednesday, April 6 for the first part of the finale.
The Top 3 kicked off the show with a performance of Kygo's "Stole the Show". Later, each of them sang a new single that will be their coronation song should they win the competition. The judges offered no comments in this first round.

Trent's song is called "Falling". It's a soulful ballad that allowed him to showcase his powerful voice and his falsetto. Dalton poured his emotion into "Strike a Match". It's the kind of pop-rock song that he should sing, but he didn't seem to be strong enough to carry it. La'Porsha sang "Battles". It's an inspirational song that showcased her amazing voice.

In the second round, the two finalists sang a song picked by "Idol" creator Simon Fuller. Trent sang "If You Don't Know Me by Now" which suited his voice well. "I thought it was a great choice," Harry Connick Jr. said, as Keith Urban declared, "You are giving La'Porsha a run for her money."
La'Porsha got "A House Is Not a Home" as her second song that night. She once again showed that she could sing any song and she even nailed her runs and ad-libs. Harry praised her lyric delivery and technical skills, gushing, "That's the most complex piece of music you've done all season." Jennifer Lopez added, "So beautiful, baby!"
Next, the Top 2 redid songs that they performed earlier on the competition. Trent went with Sia Furler's "Chandelier", which allowed him to show off his head voice. "You could not have sang that more beautifully," J.Lo commented.
La'Porsha closed it out with a rendition of "Diamonds" by Rihanna, adding some fun twists that showed how much she has grown as a performer since joining the show. Harry had nothing to criticize, and J.Lo couldn't wait to one day go to La'Porsha's concert.
The winner will be revealed in a two-hour finale on Thursday, April 7.
