Thomas Rhett Biography

Thomas Rhett was born Thomas Rhett Akins, Jr. on March 30, 1990 to country singer Rhett Akins. Rhett, who grew up listening to Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones, didn't seriously start considering following in his father's footsteps until his senior year in high school. After high school, he went to college at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. There, he played as a member of Tau Phi for their cowboy show and for frat parties, where he got used to the crowd.

Just two years into his college career, Rhett inked a publishing deal with EMI and released a song called "I Ain't Ready to Quit" on fellow country rocker Jason Aldean's 2010 release, "My Kind of Party". He then signed a recording contract with Big Machine Records' Valory Music Group division in 2011. In early 2012, he released his debut single, "Something to Do with My Hands", followed later that year by "Beer with Jesus". Both songs made it to the top 30 on the Hot Country Songs charts. His third single, "It Goes Like This", topped the Country Airplay chart and also peaked at No. 2 on the Hot Country Songs.
