When Ned holds a study group at Melinda's house, Melinda notices one of his classmates, Serena, is being haunted. Later that night Serena goes missing and Melinda helps her mother, Karen, and Delia search for her, and they eventually find her sleepwalking around Grandview. Melinda then works with Ned, Eli and Karen to discover who is haunting Serena, and learns that Serena is obsessed with vampires and thinks one is courting her. However, she only believed this because the ghost who is haunting her was trying to convince her that vampires are real in order to get closer to her. It turns out that the ghost, Andrew, was a good friend of Serena's who had moved away from Grandview a couple years prior. They had been close when they both lived in Grandview, but the friendship ended when he moved, and Andrew never got to express the feelings he had for her. After he died he wanted to be close to her again, so he convinced her that vampires were real and tried to lure her to her death so they could be together in the afterlife. Melinda discovers all of this just in time, and convinces Andrew that if he really loves her, he would help find Serena, who had gone missing again, and save her life.
