A planned big screen adaption of "Stargate Atlantis" has been shelved "indefinitely" following the cancellation of sci-fi TV show "Stargate Universe" earlier this month. The series, a spin-off from popular 1994 film "Stargate", will come to an end in the spring, and the axing of the show appears to have put plans for a movie on hold.
TV show "Stargate Atlantis" aired from 2004 to 2009. In a post on his blog, executive producer Joe Mallozzi reveals, "I'm sorry to say, but the cancellation puts the brakes on whatever progress the SGA movie had made in the past month. Contrary to what some may think, the cancellation of SGU is very bad news for those looking forward to an Atlantis movie."

the Stargate franchize is awsome from the beginning to SGU. Although SGU started off different, it has proved worthy of the sir name & i will hate to see the end.
Stargate Atlantis was good the first time around, when it was called SG-1. Although, I guess you could say Universe was better as Galactica? Either way, it was a poorly marketed show and would have done better with slightly more interesting characters. Kudus to them for trying something different. On a network channel, maybe it would have gotten higher ratings.
I was looking forward to the SGA movie and now there isn´t going to be one? Sometimes I wonder if the people that decides it are dumb.
SGU seemed like it was trying to capitolize on BSG's success. I'll leave out my comments about BSG, but I doo feel like it was a mistake to deviate from the feel of stargate. I've stuck with the show and have to say that it is getting really good. the characters are coming together and the plotlines are intensifying, I am really going to miss this show, I just hope they can close the arch. I really wish Stargate fans would get back behind this show.
I had been a HUGE fan of both, Stargate SG-1, and Stargate Atlantis. Both were well written, both had characters (actors/actresses) that were easy to like, both were very entertaining. When it came to Stargate Universe i said to myself ... what the heck happened? it was sooooo different. not that, that is always a bad thing, but in this case it was horrible. I tried on a couple of occasions to get into this spin-off. I could not! the show was terrible. I did not like the characters. it was too dark, i don't know, but from my perspective, it DID NOT resemble the Stargate formula in the least. Glad to see it gone. But said that the movie will not be made :(
Please do not stop making SG movies. I dont care if its SGU or SG-1 or SGA. Give my regards to Amanda Tapping or Col. Samantha...
SGA needs closure. Todd is now an earthling. That, among other open ends, is interesting. Overall, SGA was fun, interesting and intelligent. Doesn't this combination merit some sort of sequel?
After following SG-1 from the very beginning (when it aired on Showtime) through Atlantis I was excited about Universe but lost interest fairly quickly. This would have been a great idea had it not followed two previous shows which were utterly and completely different. It would suck very badly to have the cancelling of a show most of us never cared for end the hopes of a movie about a show we did care for.
I am a huge Staregate fan and have watched it since the beginning and I love Stargate Atlantis. I also was excited about the new series Stargate Universe but I got very bored with it by the end of the first season. The characters were not interesting enough for me. I am really disappointed that they decided to cancel the Stargate Atlantis movie I would have watched it and bought the DVD as well. I only wish they would have continued with Atlantis.
they're idiots for cancelling either one of these now there will be nothing good to watch on tv anymore!!!
Great news! Now they'll have more budget for wrestling and Stephen Baldwin films!
yes it is the worst thing for Stargate Atlantis to be shelved, i don't get their decision at all, this was one of the most popular show and poof its gone but they come out with the stupidest shows and they stay one wake up
Star Gate Atlantis was a great show. The SGU series is no good anyway. I am thankful they are taking that off the air. They should have continued with the SGA theme. Bad move Joe mallozi, now you learn, listen to your fans!
SGA was an intensely boring show...
