"American Idol" maybe close to nab a diva to fill the slot left open by Jennifer Lopez. Words on the street are, Mariah Carey is nearing a deal to join the singing competition as a new judge and she could receive a $17 million paycheck from the stint.
According to Deadline, the FOX reality series moved quickly to secure the "Obsessed" songstress because the show has to set its taped auditions. The 42-year-old mother of two was previously courted for Simon Cowell's "The X Factor (US)".
In addition to hiring Carey, FOX is reportedly approaching some "Idol" alums to join the show in some capacity. Radar Online reports that Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken are some of those who have been contacted by the network.
"Idol is reaching out to try and gauge the interest of former contestants coming back on the show to participate in some way," a so-called insider tells the site. "They wouldn't necessarily be in judging positions, but the show wants them involved."
Carey, Lambert, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj and Stacy Ferguson a.k.a. Fergie have been mentioned as the possible new judges of "Idol" since Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez announced their exits earlier this July. Randy Jackson is currently the only remaining judge, but it has been rumored that he might be replaced as well and moved "into a more mentoring role."

She is not the best selling idol by a long shot. You aren't including worldwide sales. Kelly has her bested. but calling her a has been is just plain ignorant. Carrie is an AMAZING vocalist. She has more sales than Kelly in the US with less albums under her belt.
Carrie Underwood is the greatest and best selling Idol in history. Hey Jim, why don't you stop listening to rap garbage and start listening to actual great vocalists, you moron!
Jim, you have no idea about music if you would consider Carrie Underwood a "Haz Bin" lol Wow. I wouldn't like to see Carrie in that postition though, she should concentrate more on her music. Mariah - why not!
Clay Aiken would be the perfect judge. Great mentor, can provide good critiques and is funny and entertaining.
Carrie gets too much exposure, people are inundated, gets tiring. After C.Apprentice I would say Clay would be perfect. He's a bright guy, quick wit and with Clay it would be about the contestants again which people miss.
I don't think another diva would be good as they are all about themselves. AI needs someone who would be witty and give honest critique. Ity should be about the contestants not the judges. Clay Aiken would be a good fit as he is intelligent and has been through this process. He was great on Celebrity Apprentice and was very popular when he was on AI himself as a contestant.
Carrie Underwood is a Haz Bin and she would fit right in with a show that will turn out the lights next year.
I think Guitarist Jeff Beck And Carrie Underwood should be the two new judges.Jeff is the best Guitarist and Carrie has so much talent. That is an awesome set of judges.Peace.
Jim, you're kidding me, right? "Haz Bin" (those words aren't even in my dictionary) would NOT describe Carrie Underwood. clearly you don't know music.
