AceShowbiz - The search for the actor who will play Finnick Odair in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" might be close to its end. Shortly after the news broke that Amanda Plummer has been cast as Wiress, it is now reported that British actor Sam Claflin is courted to play the District 4 heartthrob in the sequel to "The Hunger Games".

It was Variety which first shared the news that the "Snow White and the Huntsman" actor is the choice to play the most coveted available role in the sequel. Multiple sources revealed to the site that the 26-year-old thesp is currently nearing an offer from Lionsgate Films.

Finnick is described as a 24-year-old very handsome and tan skinned young man with bronze hair and stunning sea-green eyes. The District 4 figure is known for having many lovers in the Capitol. At the age of fourteen, he won the Hunger Games by using a trident and a net against other Tributes.

In addition to Claflin, Lionsgate Films reportedly has set its eyes on Oscar winner Melissa Leo to play Mags, and Emmy winner Tony Shalhoub to star as Beetee. Mags was Finnick's mentor when he first joined the Hunger Games. Beetee, meanwhile, was a smart inventor who can use electricity as a weapon.

Claflin first entered the Hollywood business when he landed a supporting role as Philip Swift in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides". His recent blockbuster movie was "Snow White and the Huntsman", in which he plays William, the love interest of Kristen Stewart's titular character.

As for "Catching Fire", the highly anticipated movie is scheduled to open wide in the U.S. on November 22, 2013. It will bring back Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth as Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne respectively.
