Baz Lurman's high-end, long-awaited vintage drama "The Great Gatsby" finally unleashes its very first official trailer. Studded with flashy landscape of 1920s New York City, the promo focuses on Leonardo DiCaprio as a rich man who throws luxurious party almost every night. His secret affair with Carey Mulligan and friendship with Tobey Maguire are also highlighted in the trailer.
Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, "Great Gatsby" tells the story of Nick Carraway (Maguire), a young man from Minnesota who moves to New York in the spring of 1922 to learn about the bond business. Chasing his own American dream, Carraway lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio), and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Mulligan), and her blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton).
Carraway is later drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As the young man bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to modern times and struggles.
The prestigious drama was shot in Australia and cost an estimated $150 million to produce. In addition to serving behind the lens, Lurman wrote the script along with Craig Pearce. Also supporting the upcoming film are Isla Fisher, Gemma Ward, Callan McAuliffe, Jason Clarke and Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan.
Warner Bros. Pictures will release "The Great Gatsby" in theaters across the U.S. on December 25, the same day when DiCaprio's other movie "Django Unchained" opens nationwide.
