Asked to clarify the situation, the Hip-Hop group's only female member Stacy Ferguson stresses that 'a break is not a break up,' and her bandmate Taboo says, 'We're a family, dude.'
Words have run wild that Black Eyed Peas might be breaking up, but members of the Hip-Hop group are adamant they are only taking a break. Asked to clarify the swirling rumors when met at the Los Angeles International Airport on Saturday, October 22, both Fergie and Taboo denied they were splitting.
In her response, Fergie, who is also known as Stacy Ferguson, confirmed that they are indeed on hiatus. She, however, was quick to stress, "We're taking a break. A break is not a break up." Her bandmate, Taboo, also laughed at the idea and stated, "We're a family, dude. Don't believe the hype."
Black Eyed Peas were first hit with report that they were on the verge of breaking up back in July after they announced they were taking a break. Although the band have tried to assure fans it won't be the end of them, their recent decision to pull out of Michael Jackson tribute event on October 8 added more fuel to the rumors.
Promoters said at the time that the BEP have suddenly become "unable to perform" due to "unavoidable circumstances". In a statement, Global Live Events CEO Chris Hunt said, "It is with regret that we announce the removal of Black Eyed Peas from the Michael Forever bill, but I look forward to a great night with other earth-shattering artists."
Since then, will.i.am has tried to put a stop to the speculations by tweeting, "Why do people listen to rumors...'Me and @apl_de created the peas'...so...from the creators mouth...We are not breaking up...stop the rumors." Fellow bandmate apl.de.ap also tried to set the record straight. In an interview with ABS-CBN News, he said, "You know, we always take a break every two album cycles. We are not breaking up. We are taking a little break."
