"Grey's Anatomy" is going through a major transfiguration from the fifth to sixth season with the cast going in and out. Old news that T.R. Knight is exiting the show, which means that George O'Malley was dead on the season finale, is brought up to the surface again but this time EW comes with a confirmation.
The publication is quoting sources that ABC has green lit Knight's request to be released from the contract. Thus, George's last appearance could be the devastating accident on season 5 finale where he became a John Doe after being disfigured. The reason for his departure still revolves around the previous factors, including a lack of storyline for George and Knight's rift with creator Shonda Rhimes.
No rep from either ABC or T.R. Knight has given any confirming statement.
On a happier tone, one recurring cast has been promoted to be a series regular. Jessica Capshaw who plays Callie's love interest Arizona, will be making more appearances when the sixth season hits the screen this Fall.
One question remains whether Katherine Heigl who has also been subjected to exit rumor, will be back for season 6 or not. Her character had a flat line on the May finale, opening to all sort possibilities that depend on the behind-the-scene negotiations.

I definitely like "Izzie" and love the way "George" is! they can't leave the show... i hope they keep George... he's like the asexual person of the show... he's a guy when he needs to be and a girl for his friends when they need him. he's also funny with all his facial expression and a very sensitive guy. I love his role in Grey's anatomy.
