Like Meredith [], "" fans have had a hard time to come to terms with Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd's () death. Still, series creator Shonda Rhimes defended the decision to kill off the beloved character, reasoning that it was the only way to preserve Derek and Meredith's true love.

"The decision to have the character die the way that he did was not a difficult one in the sense of what were the options?" Rhimes said at the 2015 Summer TCA press tour in Beverly Hills on Tuesday, August 4. She went on explaining, "Either Derek was going to walk out on Meredith, and leave her high and dry, and what was that going to mean? That was going to suggest that the love was not true, the thing we had said for 11 years was a lie and McDreamy wasn't McDreamy. For me, that was untenable."

"Back on greys all week working with Eric , sad to see him go," so Dempsey wrote on Monday, July 30. The Derek Shepherd depicter later removed the two set photos after tweeting, "I just was told to take photos down ? Abc is watching."
