"United 93" was named the Best Film with Daniel Craig and Judi Dench being crowned Best Actor and Actress, respectively.

Surprises marked the ceremony of this year's Evening Standard British Film Awards as the London's afternoon newspaper held the annual event yesterday, February 3 at the Savoy Hotel in London.

Making a rather different pick with other film critics', the award jury named Daniel Craig of "Casino Royale" the Best Actor while deeming Judi Dench of "Notes on a Scandal" the Best Actrees, ignoring Oscar favorite Helen Mirren who has already received numerous accolades for her performance in "The Queen."

Elsewhere, 9/11 drama "United 93" was recognized as the Best Film with "Queen" director Stephen Frears earning Special Award for "for making British film reverberate around the world."

Other winners included Peter Morgan who scored in Best Screenplay category for his writings on both "The Queen" and "The Last King of Scotland" and Sacha Baron Cohen as the recipient of Peter Sellers Award for Comedy through his role in "Borat."
