The Da Vinci Code to Open Cannes Fest

"The Da Vinci Code," the drama mystery thriller directed by Ron Howard, is set to open the 59th Festival de Cannes about to be held on May 17, the same day the film will be released in France and two days before it is released worldwide.

Based on Dan Brown's bestseller and produced by Brian Grazer and John Calley for Columbia Pictures and Imagine Entertainment, "The Da Vinci Code" stars the likes of Tom Hanks, Jean Reno, Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina and Paul Bettany.

Top 10 Winners of US Box Office Competition

Underworld: Evolution picture
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters sees the glory of new horror film "Underworld: Evolution" scoring $27.6 million, to be the winner of US box office competition. To dominate the weekend box office at 2nd place is "Hoodwinked" with $11 million in ticket sales.

Inspirational films "Glory Road" and "Last Holiday" ranked 3rd and 4th in a row, taking in $9.1 million each. "Brokeback Mountain," the gay-cowboy romance bounces four places to No. 5 with $7.8 million in its seventh weekend. Comedy flick "Fun with Dick and Jane" comes at No. 6 scoring $6.1 million in ticket sales.

UK Singles Chart's Top 10 Hits

"When the Sun Goes Down" brings Arctic Monkeys to the very top position of UK singles chart, marking the music group's second British number one. The rockers have a large fanbase thanks to the marketing power of the Internet that resulted in such attainment.

Entering the charts at No. 2 is the late New York rapper Notorious B.I.G.'s "Nasty Girl," which then followed by Will Young's "All Time Love" at No. 3 and Beyonce Knowles' "Check On It" at No. 4. Former chart-topper Shayne Ward's "That's My Goal" falls to No. 5, ahead of acoustic duo Nizlopi's "JCB Song" which falls four places to No. 6.

Bon Jovi Involved in Aeroplane Accident

Music group Bon Jovi involved in an aeroplane accident Saturday January 21st, 2006. The Boeing 707 carrying the band and its touring staff, skidded off a runway at Hamilton International Airport after landing in severe weather in Canada.

Fortunately, all the 14 passengers escaped injury. A spokeswoman said the passengers and flight crew were arriving from Buffalo, N.Y., where the band played Friday. No one was hurt. And thus, the band's scheduled shows set for Saturday, Monday and Tuesday at Toronto's Air Canada Center are expected to proceed as planned.

Brown & Houston's Divorce Rumors Are Wrong

"The rumors are wrong," so Bobby Brown told People magazine speaking on recent publication claimed he and wife Whitney Houston are heading for divorce. "They're false." Being asked what prompted such report, Brown replied: "I really couldn't tell you. They say I said something about it, but I joke a lot...I don't think I said it, but if I did it was a joke. Trust me...it's someone that got the words mixed up."

To your notice, Brown was recently reported telling friends that he was planning to divorce Houston while he was seen with several women backstage at Connecticut's Foxwoods Casino. Unlike his superstar wife Houston who "definitely upset" with the report, Brown himself is keeping cool.

P.O.D. to Release Their "Testify" on Jan 24

Teamed with superstar producer Glen Ballard for nearly six months of recording sessions, the hard rock band P.O.D. is about to release their fourth full-length Atlantic effort entitled "Testify" Tuesday January 24th.

"It was a big deal to hear someone like Glen's opinion coming from all the different backgrounds that he's worked with, from Michael Jackson to No Doubt to Aerosmith." So the band's drummer Wuv commented.

Stars Set to Receive Special Grammys

David Bowie has been slated to receive a special Grammy next month. The rocker along with Cream, country icon Merle Haggard and late comic innovator Richard Pryor are among the many names mentioned to be handed the Recording Academy's 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award.

Also set to be honored for their career-long artistic contributions are blues legend Robert Johnson, opera star Jessye Norman and folk group The Weavers. In companion with them there are also Island Records founder Chris Blackwell, engineer Al Schmitt and producer Owen Bradley, all of whom are set to receive the Trustees Award, presented for nonperforming contributions.

Up for Sale, Shakira's Miami Beach Mansion

Latin singer Shakira is selling her Florida mansion, so her real estate agent said Friday January 20th, 2006. The 6,500-square-foot building has five bedrooms, six-and-half bathrooms, a pool and a dock.

The waterfront property in an exclusive area of Miami Beach, which Shakira bought in 2001 for $3.38 million, has views of Biscayne Bay and is now sold for $5.9 million.

50 Cent Sued for Copyright Violation

50 Cent is sued by Luther Campbell, the ex-frontman of rap group 2 Live Crew, who claimed the rapper has stolen a line from a song he formerly wrote for his 2003 hit single "In Da Club." Filed a claim at Miami Federal Court last week, Campbell's lawyer accused Fiddy of using the opening line of Campbell's song "It's Your Birthday," changing just one word.

Campbell's lawyer said 50 Cent only changed one word from the opening line of his client's song from "It's Your Birthday" after repeating the word "go" several times, "Sheila" becomes "shorty" in the line, "Go shorty, it's your birthday." Being asked about the copyright violation, 50 Cent's publicist, Dennis Dennehy, said he had no comment on the lawsuit while the rapper himself was unavailable for comment.

Actress Meg Ryan would probably join the many Hollywood's adoptive mothers as she's been reported to adopt a Chinese baby. Per America's OK! celebrity magazine the beauty will sign up to play mother for the baby Jan 20th, 2006.

Wanting to become a mother for the second time, Ryan has been granted the approval late last year. That being so, still according to the same source, the adoption is scheduled to take place at an American consulate in China.

Australian pop rock duo composed of identical twin sisters, The Veronicas, is going to rock US. This is their first time ever to embark on a tour in the country.

Beginning January 28 in Sacramento, CA, the tour actually is held as an attempt to support the release of their debut album "The Secret Life Of...," which is scheduled to hit the market Feb 14th, 2006.
