Sarah McLachlan Performing New Single 'Don't Give Up on Us'
October 01, 2008 04:10:03Sarah McLachlan has performed "Don't Give Up on Us", one of the new songs in her upcoming greatest hits album "Closer-The Best of Sarah McLachlan" which is due October 7. After giving introduction of what the song means, Sarah turns to her piano to perform the acoustic version of the song.
"Don't Give Up on Us" is inspired by her recent split from husband of 11 years, Ashwin Sood. According to Sarah it is "pretty self-explanatory, basically just a plea to give it another chance and keep trying." The other new material in the compilation, "U Want Me 2" is also derived from the painful experience, telling how at the end of relationship there's a lot of anger and sadness.

Announcing her separation from the Canadian musician, she publicly stated "I'm separating from my husband" adding that her songs "U Want Me 2" and "Don't Give Up on Us" tell about her personal turmoil dealing with the failed marriage.
McLachlan and Ashwin, the drummer in her band, have been married since February 1997. They are parents to two daughters; India Ann Sushil and Taja. The family currently reside in Vancouver.

According to Spinner.com, the Canadian singer will spawn two new exclusive songs for the upcoming untitled LP.
Commenting about Sarah's new project, her manager Terry McBride wrote on his blog, "It is amazing to hear Sarah McLachlan's voice again. There is a purity to her magic as it's from a heart that is wide open and bare in its naked emotion." Promoting the upcoming songs on the record, Terry also added, "The melodies are addictive, the lyrics personal to each and everyone, and the delivery is both spine chilling and uplifting. "

Annie Lennox fills a special charity song with her female musician friends. 23 stars such as Madonna, Sarah McLachan, and Celine Dion have agreed to join her for "Sing", a song taken from Lenox's new album.
"Sing" is a song with numerous stars' vocals. Others who chip in their voices are Stacy Ferguson, Faith Hill, Pink, Dido, Gladys Knight, KD Lang, Angelique Kidjo, Bonnie Raitt, Shakira, Melissa Etheridge, Anastacia, Joss Stone and KT Tunstall.

It's a girl again for Sarah McLachlan. The Canadian musician, singer and songwriter gave birth to her second child on June 22nd.
A publicist for the songstress confirmed the good news, saying the baby daughter was named Taa-Jah, which is the Hindi word for "crown." "The family is overjoyed to welcome this newest edition to their family," so said her Vancouver-based record label, Netterk Music Group adding that "Both mother and baby are happy and healthy."

Debuting at No. 1 on the US album chart this week is Ciara. The pop sensation leads the pack in the busy album release week with "Ciara: The Evolution" sold 338,447 copies in the United States. The success of the album sales is jacked up by the success of its lead single, the ballad "Promise", which is currently at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Following in on the 2nd spot of the Billboard 200 is the Eminem-branded multi-artist compilation "Eminem Presents: The Re-Up" which has been sold 309,000 copies in the week ended Sunday Dec 10th. Gwen Stefani's "The Sweet Escape" lands at No. 3 with 243,000 units. The chart's next best bows are the soundtrack to Disney's former chart-topper "Hannah Montana" at No. 4 with 243,000 units, ahead of the multi-label hits compilation "NOW 23" which slips one to No. 5 with 185,000.

The US album chart sees the rising of a new champ as last week's chart-topper, Jay-Z's "Kingdom Come," slips five spots to No. 6, selling another 140,000 copies in the week ended Sunday Dec 4th. Winning the top spot of the week is rock group Incubus whose sixth studio album "Light Grenades" rocketing into the No. 1 spot of the Billboard 200, sold 165,000 copies.
Elsewhere on the chart is former chart-topping soundtrack to the Disney Channel's "Hannah Montana" which bounces five places to No. 2 with 157,000 units. DAUGHTRY's "Daughtry", in the meantime, slips one to No. 3 with 156,000 in its second week, just one place ahead of hits compilation "NOW 23" which is at No. 4 with 154,000. Also slip one to No. 5 is The Beatles' "Love" with 146,000.
Sarah McLachlan to Celebrate Christmas with "Wintersong"

Christmas has yet come, but Sarah McLachlan has prepared all to celebrate the big day. The singer has planned to release a new album, titled "Wintersong", slated for October 17th release date.
The set, consists of 12-track CD, marks McLachlan's first new studio recording in three years. The collection features among other Diana Krall on piano for the 1965 Charlie Brown song "Christmas Time Is Here", and the Barenaked Ladies' Jim Creegan on double bass.
