In an annual tradition of celebrating the worst of the worst in cinema ahead of movie's biggest awards Oscars, the 2025 Golden Raspberry Awards nominations spotlight DC and Marvel superhero movies.

AceShowbiz - The nominees for the 2025 Golden Raspberry Awards, known infamously as the Razzies, have been announced, turning the spotlight on what has been deemed the year's worst films and performances. Highlighting the list with a staggering seven nominations is "Joker: Folie a Deux," the much-anticipated sequel to Todd Phillips' 2019 dark and gritty hit.

While the original "Joker" was a critical and commercial success, earning Joaquin Phoenix an Oscar, "Joker 2" did not share the same fortune. Despite fronted by two Oscar-winning actors, the sequel, which had its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, received harsh critiques and bombed at the box office, earning just $206 million worldwide against its $200 million production budget.

This dismal performance was followed by its nominations for worst picture, director, and screenplay, along with nods for worst prequel, remake, rip-off, or sequel.

Stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, who both took on leading roles, found themselves nominated for worst actor and worst actress, respectively. Their combined efforts in the film did not go unnoticed, as they were also nominated for the dubious honor of worst screen combo.

Such a fall from grace is stark given Phoenix's previous Oscar win for the same character and Gaga's critically-lauded performance in 2018's "A Star Is Born". Although she did not win Best Actress back then, she did take home an Oscar for Best Original Song.

Joining "Joker: Folie a Deux" in the ranks of poorly received films are "Borderlands," "Madame Web," "Megalopolis," and "Reagan," each garnering six nominations. Notable performances, or the lack thereof, include Dakota Johnson in "Madame Web," who was nominated for worst actress alongside Cate Blanchett, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Jennifer Lopez for their roles in "Borderlands," "Argylle," and "Atlas," respectively.

The much-maligned video game adaptation "Borderlands," directed by Eli Roth and the Ronald Reagan biopic "Reagan" were also singled out for their failures. In "Reagan," Jon Voight's performance, described as "imitating Bullwinkle's nemesis Boris Badenov," earned him a near-record four nominations across different films.

The Razzies have been involved in controversy in the past, rescinding a nomination for "worst performance by Bruce Willis" following his aphasia diagnosis and apologizing for the insensitive nomination of child actor Ryan Kiera Armstrong. Despite their often mean-spirited approach, the Razzies remain a staple in Hollywood's award season.

The "winners" of these dubious honors will be announced on March 1, just one day before the Academy Awards. As always, the outcome will no doubt generate a mix of amusement and cringes across the film industry and among movie buffs worldwide.
