AceShowbiz - As the GQ Designer of the Year, Pharrell Williams is unfazed by Drake's lyrics about melting down the jewelry he purchased at his Joopiter auction. In a recent cover story with GQ, the "Happy" hitmaker reflected on Drake's splurge and subsequent threat to melt the jewelry on Travis Scott (II)'s "MELTDOWN" track.
When asked about Drake's lyrics, Williams replied with confidence, saying he understands Drake's appreciation for music history and doesn't take his remarks personally. "I think beyond all of the on-goings. At the heart of all of it, he's a fan of music. He's a fan of the history of what it is, and I happen to be a part of that, and those artifacts are a part of it," Williams explained.
In response to Drake's lyrics about melting down the chains and dismissing the heritage associated with them, Williams said he believes that when you let go of things, you need to let go of your attachment to them.
"When you let things go, a huge part of it is actually letting go. Not just of the physical item but letting go of your connection to what it's supposed to mean," he said. "This is not my baby. That's why I'm letting it go."
Despite the lyrics, Williams' jewelry has continued to appear in Drake's videos, including "Family Matters", where Drake responds to shots from Kendrick Lamar.
Williams' calm and composed response shows that he is not letting Drake's words affect him. He understands that Drake is a fan of his work and the jewelry's historical significance, and he believes it is important to let go of material possessions when it's time to move on.
