AceShowbiz - The 24th annual MTV Movie Awards was kicked off Sunday night, April 12 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California with Amy Schumer as a host. Shailene Woodley and Jennifer Lawrence were among the early winners at the prize-giving event.
Woodley won Best Female Performance for her performance in "The Fault in Our Stars". She beat out Scarlett Johansson ("Lucy"), Lawrence ("The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1"), Emma Stone ("Birdman"), and Reese Witherspoon ("Wild").
"I feel like this award belongs to John Green," she said, referring the author of the novel which the movie is based on. "He gave this world a beautiful masterpiece, a gift in 'The Fault in Our Stars'. It changed my life when I read it and being a part of this film dramatically influenced who I am today."
"And his words will transcend time because they transcend any age. There's not one single demographic that will not be affected by the wisdom and the compassion and the beauty that he laces into every single thing in his life. So, John Green, beyond 'The Fault in Our Stars', I just want to thank you for being the human that you are and for every single day living a life with integrity and again compassion on your sleeve because you changed the lives of millions of people around the world. You changed mine."
Though losing the Best Female Performance to Woodley, Lawrence still managed to take home Best Musical Moment and her co-star Elizabeth Banks won Best On-Screen Transformation. Best Hero and Breakthrough Performance went to Dylan O'Brien for "The Maze Runner". He also snatched the Best Fight for his battle scene with Will Poulter.
Other stars who got Golden Popcorn include Zac Efron ("Neighbors") for Best Shirtless Performance, Seth Rogen & Rose Byrne ("Neighbors") for Best WTF Moment, and Meryl Streep ("Into the Woods") for Best Villain.
