Robin Williams was remembered in a star-studded memorial Saturday, September 27. Billy Crystal who honored the late actor at this year's Emmy Awards opened the remembrance event at the landmark Curran Theatre in San Francisco with a heartfelt tribute.

The mourners included Bonnie Hunt, Bobcat Goldthwait, Whoopi Goldberg, Pam Dawber, Lance Armstrong, George Lucas, Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman, Bette Midler, Joel McHale, Jeff Bridges, Josh Groban, and Ben Stiller.

"Whoopi told an amazing anecdote about when Billy, Robin and she went to Washington D.C. to meet Ted Kennedy. It was something about Robin saying, 'Okay, if Ted says he'll drive, let's regroup,' " a source told New York Daily News. "Whoopi could barely get through it she was laughing so hard."

"Everyone had anecdotes. It was really special," the source added. "It was an amazing and fitting tribute for an incredible person."

William's widow Susan Schneider, 50, was in attendance with his three children Zak , 31, Zelda, 25, and Cody, 22. They went on stage last to pay tribute to their late father and spoke individually. The guests wore wristbands with the message "Love the stillness of life." The musical tribute was led from Stevie Wonder with the Glide Memorial choir.

The actor died August 11 of apparent suicide. He was 63. His wife revealed that he was battling early stage Parkinson's disease before he killed himself.
