Swift and Adele bag three kudos at the 36th annual American Music Awards, being followed by Nicki Minaj with two gongs.

Near the end of the 2011 American Music Awards, Adele was honored with Favorite Pop/Rock Album through her smash hit album "21". The British singing sensation won it over Lady GaGa and Rihanna. She was not present at the ceremony because she's still recovering from her vocal cord surgery. Thus, the award was accepted by Jenny McCarthy on her behalf.

Adele, however, had to give up Artist of the Year title to Taylor Swift. The "Someone Like You" singer, along with Lady GaGa, Katy Perry and Lil Wayne, was blocked by Swift to win the top prize. Lionel Richie and Vanessa Minnillo were on hand to present her with the honor just before the closing performance by LMFAO.

The winner of the evening who was not announced on the televised event was Foo Fighters. This band won Favorite Alternative Artist over The Black Keys and Mumford & Sons. Though losing Artist of the Year, Adele still managed to add two more gongs; Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist and Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist.

The other victorious artists included Blake Shelton, Usher and Casting Crowns. They received Favorite Country Male Artist, Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist, and Favorite Contemporary Inspirational Artist respectively. Special honoree, meanwhile, was Katy Perry as a female artist with five #1 singles from one album.

Overall, it was Swift and Adele who dominated the full winner list by pocketing three awards each. Their domination was followed by another female artist Nicki Minaj who scored a double victory at the event. She got Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album.
