While preparing Lemond Bishop's defense against the state's murder charges, Alicia is saddled with Charles Lester, a lawyer from another firm that Bishop wants on the case. Lester is a small and soft spoken man, but it soon begins to look as if he is going behind Alicia's back and intimidating the prosecution's best witnesses into recanting their testimony. While the case has started to break Alicia's way, she knows that if her co-counsels tactics come to light she could be facing disbarment. With the firm doing well again, the partners decide to hire a second investigator to help Kalinda. Enter Robyn, a smart young detective from the treasury department whom Kalinda immediately views as a threat. Cary, still miffed about his partnership being delayed, continues to think about starting his own firm.
