Melinda decides its time to come clean with Sam about her gift, but as she starts to breach the topic she and Sam notice the neighbors have hired a ghost hunter, Linus, to find out if they have a spirit in their house. Sam makes it very clear that he doesn't believe in ghosts, and Melinda decides to wait to talk to him until after Linus has gone on his way. Melinda asks Eli to check in on Linus, to find out if there actually is a ghost in the house, and if so, to help it cross over so Linus will leave. Eli ends up helping Linus discover that there is a ghost in the house, which ultimately leads them to the long dead body of the house's previous owner, a little old lady who had disappeared years before, leaving an unsolved mystery. However, after further investigation Melinda discovers that the ghost is actually that of Linus' ex-girlfriend's father, who had encouraged his daughter to break up with Linus after hearing about his belief in ghosts. After he died he immediately realized that Linus was right, and had tried to make amends by helping Linus' fledgling ghost hunting business successfully solve a case. Melinda then helps the ghost reconnect Linus with his daughter, and word of mouth lands Linus a few more jobs in Grandview. When Sam discovers that Linus is going to continue working in Grandview he goes off on a rant about how Linus is taking advantage of people over ghosts that don't exist, and Melinda is forced to defend what she knows is true, finally admitting the truth about her ability.
