Tom Selleck is urging movie executives keen to adapt his hit TV series "Magnum P.I." into a film to tread carefully because the show is too important to become another shoot-'em-up blockbuster. The actor admits he keeps hearing about a film version of the hit 1980s show but he hasn't been asked to be a part of it.
And he's reluctant to give any such project the thumbs up until he knows for sure it will honor the hit TV series and not mock it or his character. He tells America's TV Guide magazine, "My fear is, we see too many examples of studios buying the rights to a franchise, then spending $100 million on explosives and trivializing and making fun of it."
" 'Magnum's in the Smithsonian (Museum), and for a very serious reason. It was the first show to portray Vietnam veterans in a positive light. I'm very proud of that."

Bring back the original cast. No Tom Selleck... NO Magnum. No one will be better.
Please don't screw this up like "Hawaii Five-O" remake. Bring the old cast back with a young son or daughter of Magnum. How great would that be! Tom Selleck still has it. I agree... treat this series with the respect it deserves. It would be wonderful to see the old cast back in action. Please.... bring them back
It has been too many years (24),to have all the characters reunite for revenge. Magnum should have ran for well over 10 years, not just 8. So to have a reunion at this point is not realistic. Tom Selleck has had plenty of time to reprise Magnum. He spent too much time with ridiculous stuff like Friends and Closer, and even Las Vegas; although Blue Bloods is good but not enough of him in the show. What would have been nice was to have Selleck do some made for tv movies of Magnum over the past 10 years, instead of that boring Jesse Stone. I love Tom Selleck and Magnum is the best.
I agree! The only person to play Magnum...is Magnum!!! I don't see why it couldn't be a forced reunion of some kind (like actually kill off Michelle or someone close to the original cast) and get them all together at their correct ages to seek revenge...revenge like on the original show, not the new Hollywood way it is always done in remakes...all guns and violence. These guys could do this and I know they would maintain the integrity of the TV series!!
tom selleck should play Magnum PI, no one could play the role like him!!!!!
