Asa Butterfield Is due to Test for 'Spider-Man' Reboot

The 16-year-old actor is reportedly due to test for the superhero movie this week along with five other actors.

AceShowbiz - Rumors of Asa Butterfield landing the lead role in upcoming Spider-Man reboot circulated online on Thursday, May 14. Former Latino-Review scoopster Umberto Gonzalez posted on Instagram a photo of Asa next to a picture of Spider-Man, saying that the actor "has entered negotiations" with Marvel.

The rumor, however, was debunked by The Hollywood Reporter's writer Borys Kit, saying no offer has been made yet. He wrote on Twitter, "What I know: Asa Butterfield was due to test for SPIDER-MAN this week. But so were a few others. Is Asa Peter Parker? Are they done testing? What I know: There certainly is no offer. Yet. What I also know: There are certainly many rooting for Asa."

He then added a reference to Deadline's report, saying, "Deadline didn't confirm anything other than say 'Asa...is one of a select group of actors being strongly considered for the gig.' " Sources previously told Deadline that there were approximately 5 actors in total who were up for Peter Parker's role.

The new Spider-Man was previously rumored to make his debut in "Captain America: Civil War" after Russo Brothers signed a three-year deal with Sony Pictures back in March. In late April, Asa was rumored among frontrunners to play Peter Parker along with Nat Wolff, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet and Liam James.
