'Penny Dreadful' and 'Transparent' Are Big TV Winners at Satellite Awards

'Penny Dreadful', 'Transparent', 'The Knick' and 'Olive Kitteridge' take top honors at the 19th annual awards-giving event.

AceShowbiz - The International Press Academy handed out trophies to the winners of the 19th annual Satellite Awards on Sunday, February 15. In TV field, "Penny Dreadful", "Transparent" as well as "The Knick" came out as big winners with multiple prizes.

The Amazon series was named best comedy or musical series and helped lead actor Jeffrey Tambor win a gong in Actor in a Series, Comedy or Musical category. "Penny Dreadful" also nabbed two, for best genre series and best supporting actor in a series, miniseries or TV movie (Rory Kinnear).

"The Knick" led the pack with three. It was dubbed best drama series and its star Clive Owen was chosen as best actor in drama series. The Cinemax period medical drama additionally grabbed a gong for best television ensemble.

"Olive Kitteridge" won two for best miniseries and best actress in miniseries or TV movie (Frances McDormand). The best actor in miniseries or TV movie title, meanwhile, went to Mark Ruffalo for his role on HBO's telepic "The Normal Heart".

"The Mindy Project" (best actress in comedy or musical for Mindy Kaling), "The Americans" (best actress in drama series for Keri Russell), "American Horror Story: Freak Show" (best supporting actress in TV series, miniseries or TV movie for Sarah Paulson) and "Return to Zero" (best TV movie) took home one prize each.

The event, hosted by Steven Connor and Lainie Strouse and held at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, also honored the best in movie. IPA President Mirjana Van Blaricom promises a big show and new surprises for next year's show which will be the 20th.
