'Birdman' Wins Top Movie Honor at Satellite Awards

The Alejandro G. Inarritu-directed film, which was nominated in ten categories, is awarded with the best motion picture trophy.

AceShowbiz - "Birdman" is big winner at the International Press Academy 19th annual Satellite Awards. At the ceremony which was conducted on Sunday, February 16, it was revealed that the Alejandro G. Inarritu-directed film was awarded with three trophies including best motion picture, best actor for Michael Keaton and best original score for Antonio Sanchez.

Best director trophy, however, was handed to Richard Linklater for his work in "Boyhood". The movie's cast member Patricia Arquette won best supporting actress gong, while Julianne Moore was honored with best actress trophy for her performance in "Still Alice".

Producer Elizabeth Gelfand Stearns received the honor on behalf of Arquette. "Julianne's work on getting this character right and her journey to Alzheimer's is reflected by the recognition she is getting for this role," she said, as reported by Examiner.

J.K. Simmons took home best supporting actor for his performance as ruthless instructor in "Whiplash". Additionally, Milena Canonero from "The Grand Budapest Hotel" won in best costume design category.

The winner in Motion Picture, Animated or Mixed Media category is "Song of the Sea". It bested other heavy contenders which included "Big Hero 6", "The Lego Movie" and "How to Train Your Dragon 2" among others. The winner in Documentary category is the Edward Snowden documentary "Citizenfour".

The Sunday event, which also honored notable works in TV, was hosted by Steven Connor and Lainie Strouse. The full winner list is available on the official site.
