'Godzilla' and 'The Expendables' scribe Dave Callaham is hired to script the sequel in place of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

AceShowbiz - "Zombieland 2" is back in motion. A new report emerged that "Godzilla" scribe Dave Callaham had been assigned to write the script to "Zombieland" sequel. The first movie's director Ruben Fleischer is expected to return to his post and reportedly will oversee the script.
A 2009 hit, "Zombieland" followed the four main characters, played by Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, on a road trip to find a sanctuary during a zombie apocalypse. The movie went on collecting $75.5 million domestically.
The success of the first movie prompted Sony to develop a sequel with original scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick on board, but the project did not move on. Instead, Amazon ordered a pilot episode based on the movie from Reese and Wernick. Lacking the original stars, the pilot was poorly received and Amazon decided to skip it.
It is yet clear whether Eisenberg and the others would be back for "Zombieland 2". Each of the stars had come a long way since starring in the comedy horror movie. Eisenberg made a breakthrough as lead in "The Social Network", Stone starred in blockbusters "The Amazing Spider-Man" and its sequel, Breslin was part of the SAG Awards-nominated "August: Osage County" cast ensemble while Harrelson was recently nominated for Primetime Emmy for "True Detective".
