The actress tops the list that includes other stylish celebrities such as Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain.
"Scandal" star Kerry Washington is named 2013's Best Dressed Woman by People magazine. The Emmy-nominated actress tops the list that includes such fashionable actresses as Academy Award-winner Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Kate Bosworth.
Taking the reign from last year's best dressed woman Gwyneth Paltrow, Washington ends on top of the compilation after the magazine's editors, 42 million readers, and fashion directors and bloggers weighed in on it. The recognition now becomes the second best-dressed title for the 36-year-old TV star, after being tagged best-dressed by Vanity Fair last July.
Despite being runner-ups to Washington, the other women on the overall best dressed list are cited in the subcategories. Lawrence, Oscar's Best Actress winner for "Silver Linings Playbook", is deemed to have the "best high-fashion style" while Chastain, the Academy Award-nominated lead of "Zero Dark Thirty (2012)", has the "best red carpet style."
"The Help" star Emma Stone is regarded for "best classic style," "Avatar" beauty Zoe Saldana for singled-out for "best denim style," while young British actress Lily Collins is cited for "best up-and-coming style."
Although actresses seem to dominate the list, singer Solange Knowles manages to break the monotony for her style risk-taking and confidence as does TV host Nicole Richie who is mentioned for "best trend-setting style."
Among the males, Justin Timberlake's suit-and-tie-wearing pays off for the pop-dance entertainer, with him ending up as Washington's counterpart over at the best-dressed man list this year.
